Usually this indicates that someone has hit the CLOSED CAPTION button or possibly the PIP (picture in picture) button on the TV remote. There is nothing wrong with the xbox, it is actually a setting on your TV. Check the remote to see how you can disable closed captions.

My 360 froze during gameplay so I turned it off, waited a minute then tried to turn it back on. The power symbol came on, and the disk drive will open but it doesn't boot up, no red lights and nothing on screen and no controller connection
