Magnavox portable dvd player

The player when turned on and a disk is inserted it just keeps saying loading. Sometimes it will work then quits and just says loading or no disk. Is this something i can fix. If not is it cheaper to have it repaired or to buy a new one? Thanks.

When I put a DVD in, it keeps saying loading, then says no disc. Sometimes it will load and play, then will get stuck and won't go beyond a certain point. I have only had the player for a few months. It is still under warranty, but I have to send it in and pay for labor.

Sounds like the laser is dying to the DVD player. I suggest you buy a new one before the one you have now poses more problems.

When i tryt to play a dvd in my philips DVP3144 it keeps flashing load and wont play

Try a cleaning disk in the player to remove accumulated dirt from the laser eye. This accounts for 99% of load error and insert disk in player errors

When i put a dvd in the player makes noise and screen says no disk or unable to read

Sounds like the mounting spindle is out of alignment, meaning the disks you load into the player are not spinning in a balanced, stable position. Without this being the case the laser pickup will not be able to read the disk and the unbalanced disk will cause a noisy hum and you may even be able to feel vibration in the player itself to confirm this. Sometimes the noise and vibration is a disks fault but if it occurs on any disk you insert (and can confirm the same disks work ok with no noise in other DVD players) it will be the players mounting mechanisim that is not playing the game properly I suspect.

i've had two magnavoxes, one that i just got about 2 months ago and they're both doing that. I got a lens cleaner CD from walmart, it's like $15, but that didn't completely fix the problem. It helped for a little while, but then the player completely broke and won't even load the cleaner. I'm not going to buy magnavox things anymore.

How to finalize a dvd on philips 3475

For my Magnavox, this work:

In your SETUP options, ensure that AUTO FINALIZE and FINALIZE AT END OF TIMER are turned OFF.

Insert DVD to be finalized. Press SETUP button. Be patient. Once DVD has loaded the DISK FINALIZE option will be available. You can then FINALIZE.

I found it cheaper to get DVD-R from Radio Shack (about $5 for 25) for VHS movies that I know I want to keep. They do record up to 6 hours, even though the packaging is unclear on this point. Picture quality is as good as the expensive DVD's.

DVD player issues

Most likely the dvd is dirty, scratched, or chipped. Try cleaning the dvd disk with a soft cloth (chamois works best). Look at the surface of the disk and if it is scratched lightly, dust and dirt particles, fingerprints, etc will cause refractions from the laser light in the dvd player, which is then read as an error by the dvd player. Cleaning it with a soft cloth will sometimes help.

If that does not work, hold the disk up towards a light source and look for light coming through from the other side. If this happens, the disk is unreadable and unrepairable as the data source has been corrupted.

The laser has become damaged/worn-out. There is no fix for it as replacement parts are not made for it.
