My GPS system is having seizures

When in use the device's screen will shake violently and make a clicking noise. It then becomes unresponsive to any of the buttons and lets out three quick beeps anytime I push anything.

system crashed last summer - suspect it overheated on one of the rare hot and sunny days.

Switched off but would not reset after 5 - 10 minutes. System worked fine after journey home when tested.

Today in a different, quite cool vehicle it gave out a numebr of beeps / clicks and the map display went into 'judder'

Switched off and reset after 5 minutes and system worked fine for remainder of journey - about 1 hour.

The solution is listed on the garmin site but it is not clear
The problem is with the infra red remote reciever on the unit
Sometimes the sun acts like the remote is being pressed and that is when it shakes
the solution, and I hope you still have the unit cause there is nothing outthere like it.

Answer: from garmin site Normally this issue is caused by sunlight from certain angles hitting the Infrared (IR) port on the unit. This makes the unit react as if the remote control was communicating with it. This makes it switch in between screens just like if you were using the remote.
You can disable the remote IR port on your StreetPilot® 26xx unit by:

  1. Powering your unit ON
  2. Press the Menu button
  3. Touch Options
  4. Touch the General tab
  5. Press the Menu button
  6. Touch Disable remote

If you wish to use the remote again you can enable the remote IR port on your StreetPilot 26xx unit by:

  1. Powering your unit ON
  2. Press the Menu button
  3. Touch Options
  4. Touch the General tab
  5. Press the Menu button
  6. Touch Enable remote

Try cleaning the screen as it is a "Touch" screen, sometimes residue will remain to confuse it thinking it is being particular about what you use to clean it with. I would sauggest something for PC screens. it helped mine some. try simple things first. always worth a try.

Touch screen is defective. seems to have dimple under the face and when you push is indents, but not responsive

If there is physical damage to the touchscreen, then it can become unresponsive and will need to be replaced. The touchscreen is bonded to the glass (they are one piece), so both the touchscreen & glass will need to be replaced, even though the glass may not be cracked. Please see this link for more information and how to have the touchscreen replaced for you.

Washing machine shakes violently during spin

If your washing machine shakes violently or if there's a loud thumping noise during the spin cycle, the load of clothes has probably gotten unbalanced. Open the lid, redistribute the clothes in the washer, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

My garmin nuvi 670 touch screen is not calibrated

Have you tried using the screen calibration command? Press the Wrench symbol, then the Display symbol and then Calibrate screen. Press the dots as it tells you to and you should now have a calibrated touchscreen.

GPS V plus. Screen goes blank except for one thin horizontal line. Unit becomes unresponsive. Have to pull the batteries. After that the unit restarts and resumes working as if nothing had happened.

According to Garmin Tech:
01) Power unit ON
02) Press ENTER until you get past all the warning screens
03) Press MENU twice
04) Go to SETUP
05) Under the SYSTEM tab, goto lower right box labeled WAAS
06) Disable the WAAS

Hope this helps!!!

Garmin 2610 freezes-up

Regarding the screen jitter, believe it or not, the infrared port is causing the issue. If you disable it through settings inside the unit your issues will go away. The sun basically destroys the infrared sensor and the unit "thinks" a button on the remote is getting clicked continuously.
