Question about Philips Magnavox 27MS343S 27" TV
Thanks but the TV is now working well when it was tried the next day. He has been giving the sound for several days now. Thanks so much for your advice.

It's rare but happens. Sometimes the volume button (or rather the plastic piece that activates the button when pressed) can get stuck. That or there has been a cleaning chemical leak down onto the button on the board itself and corroded it, causing a constant short.
As for the second Q, I feel that your TV may have received a shock through the audio line and the audio amplifier may have taken the hit. These problem can lead into multiple bad compontnts, such as a bad SMD IC on the bottom of the board.
