Question about D-Link Switch 24-Port 10/100MBPS

2 Answers

Network connecting my daughter's Dell is a Dimension 2350, and when attempting to connect the networking cable to it, I see there's no place to plug it in. The Cat 5e cable end is too large for the telephone outlet on the back. surely I don't need to get another router, etc.? is there another kind of adapter that'll work? thanks

Re: network connecting

You can go to your local computer store or Wal-mart and purchase a network card for under $25 open the computer remove the screw that holds the Phone modem remove it and replace it with the network card. if you are using XP on her computer most will detect and install. if not put in the disk provided with the network card and install the drivers.

I have just 2 computers currently connected to my Dell Power connect 2124...One is accessing the internet just fine but the other cannot acquire an ip.....I put new ends on the cable but stll no soultion

I assume you have connected your switch to any broadband router and then trying to access multiple systems at the sametime.
This is not possible if NAT (Network Address Translation) is not enabled on your broadband router.

How to connect 4computers with Swith or Hub

A switch or hub isn't very complicated. The primary benefits are connecting more than 1 computer and/or increasing the range of your wired network.
On the back of your switch, all you do is plug in each computer using an ethernet cable, plug in the switch power supply, and turn it on.The only caveat being if you're using 1 PC to connect to the internet,it should probably be plugged into port #1.It probably doesn't matter, but I'm not familiar with your brand of switch.
If this helps, would you please rate my post?

I have a cisco router linksys. I connect internet cable to it in ethernet port. Neither by wire not by wireless I can connect my laptop. The connection comes as only local

If you can plug the cable that you have ran into your router into your computer directly and it works, then you can plug the router back in. Then connect the computer to the router via cable and unplug the router for about 15 seconds and plug it back in. If you connect the computer by cable directly and it doesn't work, then try unplugging your router for about 15 seconds and then plugging it in. I have found many networking items that need to be reset whenever a network cable is plugged in when the device is powered on.

Procurve 2626 installation

You'll need to obtain a comms lead - connects into the console port of the switch then into an RS232 port on your laptop. Then, you will be able to connect using hyper terminal and you can give the switch an IP address, username, etc. Even a hard-reset won't allow you to configure an IP address as by default it needs to be configured through the lead. Will they not talk without being configured? If you just hard reset them, they should just behave as unmanaged switches.

Dell Powerconnect 2016 All leds are on, solid no blinking.

Had same problem with my Dell Pwoerconnect 2016, power it on and all LEDs light up but nothing works.
The problem was traced to one or both output capacitors ( 10v 680uf ) on the ( tiny ) power supply.
Capacitor symptoms include bulging or rounded tops instead of flat like new one and the rubber plug in base of capacitor protruding.
Capacitors need to be replaced.
I have successfully replaced with 10v 1000uf and 10v 1200uf, both Rubycon and Sanyo brands.
Power to the switch board is now restored and the switch is able to function just fine.
Give it a go and see if it works for your Powerconnect.

Is my FS605 broken

The FS06 switch is probably defective and needs to be replaced...especially if the status of the lights does not change after you cycle the power on and off with no network cables plugged in. These switches are sensitive to overheating and can easily be damaged if used next to other warm network equipment or with air vents blocked by papers, etc.

Turn-on order is not critical in this scenario, but ideally you should plug in all network cables, turn on the switch first, then turn on the computer.

3 com hub tp4 home network setup failure

There are several possible problems here, and more information is needed to identify which one is causing trouble. First, are you using a high speed dsl or cable internet connection? ...or is your Internet connection a dial-up phone line? This will have a significant effect on how your cables should be connected between the hub and the computers. Windows typically defaults to a 169... address when it is not properly connected to a shared network connection.
