Question about RCA OPAL M4001 MP3 Player

1 Answer

Just shuts off when playing. Then restarts with BUILDING DATABASE message.

Just purchased this for my daughter and it keeps shutting off while it's playing. Sometimes it shuts off while scrolling through menu selections. Even turned off the Powersave option but that didn't work. It indicates plenty of battery power. Almost seems like a short of some kind. Can you help. Thank you.

I'm having the same problem. It keeps telling me it's building database, it may take a few minutes.

Then it says HOLD and then shuts down. I know it has a full battery. I don't know what to do.

"keeps saying building database and stays like that

An unwanted file (like a virus) on the player's storage could cause this problem.

A quick solution would be to run a virus scan using an Antivirus when the player is connected to the computer. If still the problem persists, try manually analyzing the files on the player. Sometimes, weird things like even a word document could stop the player from loading.

Wondering how a word document could go into a player? Just try to remember whether you used the player as a pen-drive for transferring files!

If you are not sure which files are unwanted, feel free to list out the files that's on the player. I will try my best to locate the culprit for you :)

Good luck!
