You don't -- the strength of the transmitter inside the unit is what limits the signal-strength out at 300 meters.

Instead, you need a "repeater" -- some people have built their own, using a Linksys router, and then reprogramming it with the free 'DD-WRT' software, and configuring the device as a repeater, rather than as an Access Point.

You buy a new one, you install it in the place of the other and you configure it following the manual - you will need the connection data from your ISP (username and password - they are in the contract).
If you no longer have it you can download it from here

You will need to check the settings of the router. You are able to go online when you connect the computer directly to the modem. Your internet service provider is DSL. You can try to reconfigure the router. Press the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. release it. unplug the power to the router. plug it back in. wait for 1 minute and try to reconfigure the router. So you are connecting the DSL Modem output to the D-Link's LAN port 1, right? In this case, you should connect the DSL Modem output to the D-Link's WAN Port, which is between the power input and the LAN outputs.

If it doesn't work that way, check this out:

Basically if your Internet service is DSL or cable it's just a plug and play. Just plug the computer to the modem once the Internet access has been activated by your ISP and your computer should automatically get connection from the modem.

Although cable to desktop connects to internet, my router from desktop to laptop via router won't connect.

Desk top to internet is OK.
How about Destop through Router connection to Internet OK?
Assuming you want to connect wireless from Lap top to Network, need to configure correctly for wireless in Router.
If you connect Lap top to router by wire and it didn't work that mean your router is bad.

Constant disconnect on both laptop and desk top

  • If you bypass the router and connects your computer directly to the your DSL modem, do you have a stable Internet connection in your computer?
  • If you do, you may reset and reconfigure your Belkin router.
  • You may also do a firmware upgrade on your router.

Hope this helps!

Question on setting up two computers

Yes, I have pretty much the same setup at home. Wired desktop and wireless laptop. On the back of your wireless router, there should be 4 or 5 wired connections which you can use. You will only have to use the setup disk on one computer. Basically, the setup disk is for the router, not the computers, it simply guides you through the router configuration process. You can also do this manually, the manual for the router will give those instructions as well.
