Our Bernette E90 timing was off due to a jam (design flaw I think)...Instructions on how we fixed it.

1. To correct timing, tip over machine and unscrew inspection plate.

2. Find the gear and unscrew the 2 grub screws so the gear is free from the shaft

3. Turn the main sewing machine handle to manually get the hook (pointed piece) of the housing (see arrow) to be directly behind the needle

4. Hold it the tightly, and turn the handle again, the needle should be able to go up and down while holding the hook in position.

5. When the needle is at it lowest and starting to move back up and the hook is directly behind tip the machine over and tighten the 2 grub screws on the gear underneath.

6. Replace inspection cover and you’re done

Have a Bernette 90e and it is driving me mad! I could be sewing for weeks and then for no apparent reason, while sewing, the bobbin housing pulls right out of position and jams. I have, by luck only I must add, been able to put it back into the right position but it takes me days!. I do not no what to do and am about to chuck the whole machine. please help me!!

Bernette deco 600 I have changed the needle, rethreaded the machine, new bobbin in and it is still not catching the bobbin thread to sew!

Do you have the bobbin in correctly? Clockwise or counterclockwise...
Is the needle in correctly? It could be backwards.
Rethread the bobbin if the thread is not wound on properly...too fast makes the thread too tight, too slow and it can wrap onto the bobbin in a haphazard way.
Check to be sure have the correct needle for your machine...matches stitch etc..
If your machine is electronic...turn it off so it goes back to any default settings.
seems like a lot, but one little thing...

When I press on the pedal the machine just makes a 'vruuuuuu' sound, and when it sews it tangles around the bobbin! It also does not pick up the bobbin thread

1. The bobbin may be in backwards.
2. The bobbin thread & top thread need to be pulled to the back before starting the stitching
3. You need a ballpoint rather than universal needle to sew on t-shirt knits.
4. the needle is in the machine backwards
5. Make sure the needle is the correct one for the fabric being sewed
6. Needle inserted wrong in the needle holder
7. Damaged needle
8. Warped bobbin
9.First make sure the bobbin-winding spindle (located on top of your machine) has been pushed back to the left for sewing.
10.If it is not in the correct position, the needle will not go down and pick-up your bobbin thread.
11.Next make sure your needle is inserted correctly, with the flat side facing back.
12.Also, make sure your bobbin is in correctly
13.the upper tension disks of your machine are threaded correctly.
14.Make sure the presser foot is up when seating the thread through the upper tension.
15.Turn the handwheel towards you only and hold the needle thread lightly.
16.could be a timing problem

When I press the pedal the string get tangled and I also have problems with the bobbin thread not being picked up! Please help! Thanks margaret

thread the machine correctly( follow the operators manual)
wind the bobbin properly and when placing the bobbin in the bobbin carrier pull the thread down the small slot and under the spring plate
thread for the needle always comes in from the left (The side of the groove in the needle ) and out the cut away side
pull a long piece of thread for the needle out and hold it while you turn the machine over
after 1 or 2 revolutions the needle thread will bring up the bobbin thread and you then pull both threads out a bit
if you don't have a user/operators manual there are 2 options
one is to go google and type in --user manual for bernina bernette model 65 sewing machine and down load the pdf version
the other option is to visit manchester shops ( cloth and fabric shops ) and talk with the sales people as may of these places have a sewing circle of people who will be only to willing to help you.

My Bernette 715 isn't picking up the bobbin thread and is getting jammed. Any ideas what's wrong?

First thing to always try: Install a brand new needle. A dull, worn, or bent needle will cause great frustration. It is also the least expensive resolution to most problems.

Second: Remove all the threads. RAISE the presser foot. Rethread from the beginning making sure it is threaded correctly.
Pull up the bobbin thread before beginning to stitch and hold the thread tails in the left hand while slowly taking the first few stitches:

How and Why to Bring up the Bobbin Thread

If still having issues with not pulling up the bobbin thread, the needle/hook may be out of time.

Why won't my Bernette 65 pick up the bobbin thread

Try changing the needle

Try rethreading the machine top and bobbin

Make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way In the bobbin case

It's possible that the machine needs to be checked for a timing problem

The upper thread will not pick up bobbin thread

Make sure the needles are the correct size, fully inserted into the needle bar and oriented correctly for your machine. If that doesn't work check the timing. The hook should arrive at the needle scarf when the needle is at the lowest point in it's travel. If it doesn't... go have it timed by a pro.
