I bought a home with a Hampton Bay ceiling fan with a short down rod. Can I remove the rod so the fan is higher to the ceiling. I need to add a light.

sure you can raise it higher and you can shorten the rod or make it longer the rod has nothing to d o with balance.

Unless you are able to find a shorter rod this is not possible. Especially since the rod is needed to keep the ceiling fan from rocking and tearing down your ceiling, It has to be able to move freely to function properly.

YES YOU CAN REMOVE THE LONGER ROD AND JUST MOVE THE FAN UP
