My 2003 Subaru Forester reeks of raw gasoline! It is especially bad when I have the heater on, or am idling, and is so bad I have to drive with the windows down and heat off (which is cold in CO!)...Unfortunately, it reeks outside too! I popped my hood and sniffed under there and that was where it was the worst! Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You need to look at the fuel line (gas lines) to se if the clamps are loose, theyre about half inch diameter, with clamps on the ends of them with phillips head (star shaped) screw driver heads,if youre not sure just check all hoses with a screw clamp for tightness.even get garage attendant to look quickly, dont leave it ....may catch fire if gas hits exhaust!!!!

Fuel line clamps are loose. Pop the hood, look on the right side of the engine, you'll see a concave rectangle, about 2.5" X 1.5" about 3/8" deep. Looks like a tiny in ground swimming pool, only it's full of fuel. You just need a screwdriver, tighten all the fuel line clamps.

I have 2005 subaru forester. my engine shakes all the time especially when it is idle. when driving i dont feel the shake but when i stop it shakes. i have replaced my plugs but still shakes. also when i...

First step is to access the Engine Control Module (ECM) using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) memored. Even if engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) goes off after engine starting, it's possible to find out temporary DTC codes memored in the ECM. Then you will be full informed about bad components (e.g. bad heated oxygen sensor(s), cylinder(s) misfire(s), bad injector(s), bad ignition coil(s), ... etc). Therefore you will be able to repair & replace bad components and reset the ECM.
In the most cases when you smell something like rotten egg there are bad oxygen sensor(s).

2003 Subaru Forester with manual transmission and 170K miles has clunking, jerking feeling when making sharp turns after vehicle is warm.

chances are the temp of the vehicle has nothing to do with it what your probly hearing is a bad cv-axle either turn the wheel all the way to either side and take a look under the car there is a rubber boot buy the wheel if its cracked or torn the grease inside will be thrown out when driving and eventually crack the inside cage.

2000 forester overheating while idling or driving slow and heater cold, when going faster heater kicks on and temp drops. had pressure tested and passed. is it the thermastat?

flush your heater system probably clogged with dirt the coolant shld be circulating continously going to the thermostat in which the heat is responsible for opening the thermostat to allow coolant circulation

2003 subaru forester stalls at idle (automatic) Must shift to drive, to prevent stalling. What is the problem?

This is a typical form of either dirty injectors which you can clean with a high octane gas at least 2 tanks or you can get an injector cleaner which can put in when you have a low fuel about a quarter left.

Car lurches and bucks, rpms erratic on acceleration on hills

You could have any of these problems:
1) vacuum leak- broken air hose or disconnected air hose.
2) water in the gasoline- add a water remover to you gas tank.
3) bad or disconnected spark plug wire(s).
If this were my Forester, I'd take it to a mechanic who has a electronic engine tester..
