Hi, I have just updated to firmware 4.20 on my nuvi 660. For some reason, on highways now, it only offers that there a "Ramp ahead", then a few seconds later it gives me the ramp number and finally, less than 100 meters before the actual ramp, it gives me the name of the exit!. Before the update it provided the ramp number, the exit name and how many kilometers before the exit would show up. Any ideas?

Sounds like your firmware needs updated. Just go to Garmin’s website then downloads and update your firmware. As long as there is no screen damage but just touch screen not working that will fix it. An easy test is to take out the battery and if the unit works for second then freezes you just need to update firmware. Turn off unit plug into computer via usb cable and do firmware update, that easy!!!! Hope that helps?
Reset button behind the Antenna, press this in for a few seconds.
Use the Web-updater at Garmin, to update it too,
Jack it to a PC and run the update,
If still playing up, Use the Firmware update at Garmin for it,
(( google Garmin 660 software updates ))
Should be good then
However, Garmin released 3.4 which will include the changes in 3.1 and also makes the bluetooth compatible with more phones.
You need to go to www.garmin.com and download their webupdater and run it with your Nuvi connected to the PC with a USB cable. It will check (via the Internet) if you need a firmware upgrade. The latest firmware version for a Nuvi 660 is v4.7. There is a second menu after the main firmware option that allows you to select additional software. Select yes and check the bluetooth 3.4 box and the Chipset "G" box if it's shown.. The Chipset "G" is the upgrade for the receiver in the flip-up antenna. Let it download. When finished, select to safely remove the Nuvi. You can now unplug the USB cable. Your Nuvi will reboot and load in the new changes. Whatever you do, don't turn your nuvi off! Let it go and update. You will see it say "Loader", then "Loading Software" and you'll see a task bar that says "Updating Bluetooth Software" and "Updating GPS Software" (if required). Once you get to the main menu and there are no more texts coming up on the screen. Press the power button and turn your unit off and then back on again. Check the GPS and Bluetooth firmware versions in your Nuvi. It should be 3.0 for the GPS and 3.4 for the Bluetooth. Check the firmware version if you selected v4.7. You will have to re-pair your phone with your Nuvi as the update erases any previous set-up. Let me know how it went for you. If you have trouble with this, let me know. I can do it for you. I have done it many times. Please rate my solution if you found it helpful.
The update should not have affected the proper operation of your Nuvi unless it was a bad flash. I would try to reflash the firmware again and make sure you properly disconnect the Nuvi from the PC by choosing the safely remove function. Also, make sure your battery is charged and don't press the on/off switch at all while its reflashing or rebooting. However, yes there is a site that offers older firmware versions. http://gpsinformation.org/perry/nuvi/
Can you update the firmware on your unit
my k800i sony phone had a problem synchronising and would freeze, then one day the nuvi 660 updated the firmware by itself and has been fine since, only problem being the volume, a bit low when trying to contest with large diesel engine, onboard speaker keen to distort over 80% volume
folks, the garmins have an on-board battery that needs to be powered up (at least occasionally) via the usb port - like from your computer. just using the dc car power cord does nothing for this battery. i've had this exact same problem on both my 760 and 780 nuvi units. fixed it using the usb charge. seems to run down differently for all the various nuvi models. my regular charge will hold for 7 hours on my old 660, my 760 and 780 work about 5 hours. my 'power up' failed on the 660 after 10 months with no internal battery charge, but the 7xx models only took about 5-6 months to 'fail.' hope this helps. jack b :-) in midland, tx usa
