DVDRW does not recognise any media

By redfraggle77 on Oct 12, 2009

My DVD-RW drive is not recognising any media at all. I have tried blank CDs, blank DVD-R and DVD+R, Movie DVDs, Music CDs. I have tried multiple brands of blank disk as well. It will not read, format or burn to any disk

It is a TS-L632H Slim 8x DVD-RW and has been working fine until today. Its about 1 year old.

The error message I get is ''Please Insert a disk into Drive E:''

I have already tried the following:
- Uninstall my DVD-RW drive (via Device Manager) and let it re-install automatically
- Updated the Firmware
- Removed all burning software and iTunes
- Re-installed Roxio (as was the software pre-installed when laptop delivered)

What else should I do?

- Really don't want to buy another unit. Any other options?

- Did try this before raising the request but there wasn't any Upper/Lower filters to delete.

This can be a problem with the lens of the media drive that you have, the first thing that you can do here is to run a lens cleaner on it, you can get it from any electronic store near you, but after running a lens cleaner and still the same problem a lens replacement is needed for this unit....

This is due to a bad pickup laser on this its easier and more cheaper to replace then to go ahead and fix you can pick these up faster and better at any computer store and there relatively easy to install.

You can try a cleaning kit to see if that shores it up if it does you saved what $45-$50 bucks but if it does not well your most likely better off getting another unit. This is my expert advise I do Thank you for using Fixya.
