I would suggest you go into the menu and select convergence and then advanced convergence (set will display on screen instructions) and call up the grid of lines by doing that---the grid of lines you see should all be yellow---if you see red or blue lines out of position try with the Mitsubishi remote to adjust them.

If they will not adjust the set needs the convergence circuit repaired.

For many if this is the issue it can be a do it yourself repair--I have complete instructions for this repair in this set---start to finish.

Look first to see if this is your problem.

5ebe434.jpg A projection television and a convergence control method thereof are provided. The projection television, which magnifies images displayed on cathode ray tubes (CRTs) for the colors red, green, and blue using lenses and projects the magnified images onto a screen, includes a convergence control apparatus capable of adjusting the convergence while an input image signal is displayed, the convergence control apparatus including: an image signal decoder which processes the input image signal to generate a data signal, horizontal and vertical synchronous signals, and a start signal indicating the start of either the horizontal or vertical synchronous signal; a convergence control unit which normally projects an image signal output from the image signal decoder onto the screen and performs convergence control using a predetermined region of the screen displaced from a visible region of the screen according to a convergence control command; and a main microcomputer which inputs the convergence control command to the convergence control unit when the start signal is input from the image signal decoder, stops the convergence control when a completion signal is input from the convergence control unit, and performs a control operation to continuously display the image signal during the convergence control.

Convergence setup for toshiba 42in projection

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.

I have a yellow line on the right side of my Toshiba 50 rear projection TV and yellow shadows around people

It sounds like a convergence problem---go into the customer menu and select convergence---set should offer center and multipoint adjustment--in the multipoint look to see if the outer crosses adjust--if red or blue will not adjust somewhere--bad convergence IC's.

Toshiba 41h81 green convergence problem

Below are two of the most common problems encountered with projection TV sets.

Problem #1 - CONVERGENCE PROBLEM

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Touch-up Convergence adjustments Enter the Digital Convergence Mode (DCM) by entering 0-6-2-5-9-7-(Status or Index) on the Remote control. The following menu will appear: Select an active channel or Aux Input. A signal must be applied to the set when performing convergence. If any Customer Adjustments need to be made, the Menu button can be used to toggle between the Customer Menu and DCM. The MPOSD ADJUST is used to center the Customer Convergence grid. A highlighted cross will appear along with the Convergence alignment grid. The highlighted cross should be centered onto the center of the Convergence grid. To perform a Touch Up Convergence, highlight SELECTION and press the right cursor button on the remote. The following menu will appear: Selections STORE, RESTORE FACTORY, and RESTORE DEFAULT are not shown after selecting SELECTION. Press the cursor down button on the Remote for these selections to appear. RESTORE FACTORY loads Convergence defaults from the Factory Loaded section of the Convergence Memory IC. RESTORE DEFAULT loads Convergence defaults from the sets software. To perform a Touch-up Convergence: 1. Enter the Convergence Mode and select RED TO GREEN or BLUE TO GREEN. Do not select GREEN (Green Geometry) without placing a Template over the screen. To perform Green Geometry, refer to the Complete in-depth Convergence. 2. Use the Cursor buttons on the Remote to Navigate from one adjustment point to another. Press the Status or Index button on the Remote to select ADJUST. Use the cursor buttons on the Remote to adjust the Red to Green or Blue to Green. Press the Status or Index button again to navigate to the next adjustment location. 3.
