Dell 922 All-in-one printer has message on printer saying head error

Should I get a new printer or can it be fixed

    The message on the printer says "print head error"

    Printer 922 was "doing fine" 'til i changed cartridges; now it reads "print head error" - i've removed tape, cleaned entire cartridges w/paper towel, unplugged everything from printer and power supply; still reads "print head error" and i'm sooooo frustrated....

Can you provide the error message, depending on the error and if you want to attempt to repair it yourself? Printers are like computers these days you can almost replace it for the repair cost, but if you will provide a error code we can see what we can do.

What does the message "print head error" mean?


That is not very much information to go on. So you can try cleaning it.

Turn on the hot water until warm
Put about 1/2 inches of water in a cup
Put the print head portion (where the ink comes out) in for about a minute
Dry off the cartridge using a soft tissue.
Re-insert the cartridge into the printer.
Run the normal cleaning software routine a few times

i once fixed the hardware message by putting the tape back on the back of the cartridge...then fixed the perpetual paper jam message...

Print head problem


Do a reset:

Dell Printer reset

1. With the power on,unplug the power cord from the wall socket.
2. Disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
3. Wait 15 seconds.
4. Reconnect the power supply to the back of the printer.
Plug the power cord back into the wall socket.


Dell Printers

To run a nozzle clean, perform the following steps:
1. Verify the All-In-One Printer 922 is powered on and connected to a computer.
2. Verify that the paper support (input tray) has clean, plain white paper loaded.
3. Press the Menu button.
4. Press the Down button until Mode: Maintenance appears on the LCD screen.
5. Press the Menu button.
The Dell 922 Maintenance Menu appears on the LCD screen.

6. Press the Down button until Clean Cartridges appears on the LCD screen.
7. Press the Start button.
The AIO 922 prints the cleaning page. This process cleans the ink cartridges and resolves many print quality issues.

Try this. Install the Dell printer software again,Link below, then go to the add printer through the control panel. Highlight the Dell. On the left side it says "'Delete printer?" Click on it. You may want to even try this first before reinstalling.

Error message: color cartridge missing on a Dell 922


try another cartridge. if that works then you have a bad ink cart, if not, the sensor is bad, replace the printer.

Print Head Error


You need to replace the printheads. You will have to call Dell in order to get the printheads and instructions for your machine. Oh and please take a moment to give this solution a fixya rating. Thanks! :c)

I kept pressing menu, since it would not bring it up turned it off and on, it fixed itself, now it is printing.

New cartridge


Clean the copper contacts of the cart and reset back in the printer and if your getting the same error message please replace the cart with another cart .......

Dell 922 "cover open" problem / error message


I had that problem too.

Unplug the printer.
Hold the printer cover open while you plug in the printer.
Then close the printer after it powers on.

It worked for me.
