I got the same problem. I've read so many thread before and no one have any answer to that situation.

I'm using Windows Vista and my pc is a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21E ...

The situation is this one :
In first time my CD/DVD writter desapere. I think it's linked to my last utilisation of TuneUp utilities (I tried to change the icon of the dvd writter .. :D). So I directly look to my "gestionnaire des périphériques" (sorry I'm using french version of vista) to see if my device were correctly installed and I saw that it were a yellow /!\ (I don't know the name ..) next to the icon. So I checked the proprity and the driver were not correctly installed : error code 10.
So after looking solution on google, I found something who told to install the pilote of windows but I doesn't work. In fact after installation and restarting my pc, the DVD writter weren't able to open any cd ..
So I uninstall the driver and I reinstall with the windows assitant for installing driver. But it couldn't intalled correctly the new driver ! (error code : 1).

Vista vista ... : /
