Question about Acer Aspire 3680 Laptop
I need help and apologize if I'm not good at putting this into technical terms. I got a Flip Video camcorder for Christmas. The way the Flip Video should work is to plug it into the UBS port and the software and driver should install from the Flip Video. Well it's not. (and I've had the same problem trying to use a Maxtor external hard drive.) I was able to plug the Flip Video into my desktop that I'm pretty sure doesn't even meet the system requirement and it worked there. And my sister has the exact same Flip Video camera and has used it on 3 computers with Windows Vista and it worked great. I really think the problem is something to do with my Acer 3680. I called Acer and sat on hold for 30 minutes to speak to a woman that had no idea and wanted me to restore my computer to factory settings. She sent me to a fee charging "software" department. After holding a while there, the guy I got said it wasn't possible for the driver to install from the USB device. Needless to say I'm a little frustrated. I know this works for other people. Please help!?
USB ports on laptops are not always "powered" ports they are often "Low power" Usb ports, devices like external HDDs and webcams tend to draw too high a current to work properly on these Low power ports.
A way around this is to get a small "Powered" USB hub this is a Usb hub which has it's own plug in power supply (this is essential) you plug your devices into this and the hub into the low power USB socket. this means that the power is being drawn from the Powered hub instead of your laptop's ports.
I have come across this many times, and this small inconvenience is the only way around this.
