I cant get my siemens speedstream 4100 modem to work with my linksys WRT54Gs2v1

Modem and router together not working. Did though.
I have a 4100 modem hooked to a netgearWGT624v4 wireless which works the computer ustairs and my laptop with no problems. Easy easy. All was well until... Last Thursday my internet connection quit.
I have an HP w/XP pretty new.
Thursday morning everything stops, quits. Can't connect at all. Since then I have plugged and unplugged. Replaced cords. Pinged everything from here to Timbuktu. 192.168.1.1.ed Ipconfiged everything else. I turned everything off for aday and my 4100 now connects this computer to the internet, but my Netgear router will not work. I have tried repetedly to get it all straightened out the router doesn't do whatever it supposed to as I can't find my network anymore. Do I replace or throw?

Believe it or not the average router lives about 6-18 months before it start it downward spiral. Any router over 2 years old needs to be replaced or you will just keep messing with it until you finally go get the new router out of frustration.... OH, dont buy any "G" series routers. They will be antiques in a short time. "N" series is what you want. In addition make sure any new modem you buy is DOCSIS 3.0 or better. Walmart sell a couple of modems but they will not be compatible with the higher speeds coming soon. No, firmware cannot be updated to 3.0 as it is a hardware and software thing for 3.0. Be well
