Scanner 4400F from Canon worked fine in the beginning but now I get suddenly vertical colored stripes always at the same location. Exchanging the scanner with a simular one from my dealer gives the same problem. Can it be software related?
I had the same problem- it went away after executing 'calibration' in the driver software. You have to open the driver window from the Canon Toolbox and press the execute button next to 'calibration'

An image was repeatedly scanned with the Canoscan 4000f and now is always there without it being on the glass plate. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software. But to no avail. The image remains visible with every other image I scan.
