Question about Televison & Video
I have a goodmans LD3201 TV and the display in the corner of the tv is constantly on mono. I have tried altering the settings for sound on the menu but there does not appear to be an option for changing sound to nicam although there is a box next to the mono one which is unlit. This is driving me scatty as I have now brought a home cinema set which also will not work on this TV but will work with others in the house straight away. Please can anyone help me as I have trauled the internet with no luck looking for a clue!! Thanks

You should be watching your dvd's on an input and not on tv analog 3. Every time the tv "senses" a signal change in the audio that screen will pop up. Connect the DVD player to the tv by using either the red, white and yellow (composite) connections or using the green, blue, red, white and red (component). Once you are on an actual input that box will stop popping up.

In most cases, you can reset the TV by leaving it unplugged for 30mins.
If this doesn't work, I believe the circuit board that supplies power to the screen maybe bad. They call this board a backlight inverter board. It would most likely cost more to repair than replace the TV .

I had a similar problem on my Toshiba Regza but trying my fix couldn't hurt. I use a satellite dish for TV (if you do the same this might work)... I turned off my receiver, took the programming card out, cleaned it with my shirt (especially the part that looks like a computer chip), put it back in the receiver, turned it back on and when everything reinitialized the black rectangle was gone.
Hope this helps.

Tips for a great answer:
Keep the TV in stereo mode to get the best sound quality. The sound will work in stereo
mode even if a certain broadcast is in mono sound only.
Choose the mono setting to reduce excessive noise on a certain channel or broadcast.
Selecting SAP will allow you to hear an alternative soundtrack, if one is available.
