Question about Sony STR-DG510 Receiver

Open Question

No sound from speakers connected to STR-DG510, no matter the input

Brand new out of the box Sony STR-DG510 receiver produced no sound from the speakers when set up as follows:

• 5.1 speakers connected via speaker wire connectors
• Speakers set to SP-A (as opposed to B or OFF)
• DVD player connected via RGB and Coax
• DBS connected via RGB and 2CH audio inputs for SAT
• CD player connected to 2CH audio inputs for CD
• Muting not on
• Volume turned up to 15+
• Test Tones produced no sound from any of the speakers

I tried everything, but no sound came from speakers that were working moments before on an older receiver that I had just disconnected. I could see video from the SAT and DVD, but never got sound from either.

I unplugged everything, switched to the FM tuner input, and connected one speaker to different pairs of Speaker A connectors, but no sound.

I switched to SP-B and connected a single speaker to the Speaker B connectors, but no sound.

No matter what I tried, I could never get sound. Any suggestions? Thanks!

SOURCE: SONY STR-DG510 Sub woofer does not work

You will need a powered sub because your receiver does not amplify in the sub output.

Problem is in the amplifier output stage...there is probably a shorted component...the short could have come from a bad speaker..or the speaker wires getting touched together while it was could return to store if it is new and get a new one...maybe it was a return and accidentally got put back into stock

Sony STR-DG510 hook up with BDP-S560 no sound

The Sony manual for this receiver is not wrong, it is just a little misleading.
It does in fact use HDMI but ONLY for the HIGH DEFINITION video portion of the signal, as output from the receiver to your television. High Definition Multimedia interface carries both audio and video, however, your receiver is not decoding the high definition AUDIO portion of it and passing it through the HDMI, nor is it passing any form of multichannel audio through HDMI. So you can see why the receiver is no longer available for sale from the Sony website. The HDMI connection on your receiver is redundant unless you are not using a multichannel audio format, in which case you would be using either the TV speakers or connect an additional audio cable from the TV's "audio out" back into the receiver for external speakers.
All that should be done is use the HDMI cable from your blu-ray player connected directly to your TV. That will give you your picture, and possibly a better one since the receiver will no longer be in the signal path.
Then connect either a coaxial or optical cable from the blu ray player to the receiver for your audio. You will then be able to have Dolby Digital and DTS surround formats.
Your service person was wrong.

I'm trying to connect my Sony STD-DG510 Receiver to my karaoke machine but the sound is not coming out the speakers and I'm trying to figure out the problem, I already checked the Connection to the...

You don't say what input on the Sony is connected to which output on the Karaoke machine (what model?).

Assuming you want the Sony to do the playback from your karaoke machine...

Take the K's audio output on an RCA cable pair to any of the Sony's available analog inputs, for example one of the connectors labeled: CD, TV or SAT. My guess is SAT is unused in 90% of homes.

Select the appropriate source on the Receiver and rock on. You could even play with some of the DSP surround simulation modes to hear the K through all of your speakers.

No sound coming from Sony Receiver STR-DG510?

Sounds like you are pretty close with this one. If you select fm tuner do you get audio. If not you may have the speakers on the wrong a-b setting. Make sure the audio from your cable box is not muted or turned down.

NO AUDIO/set up problems

For this Sony, you have to use separate audio cable(s). Either optical in BD or Digital Audio in DVD (single coaxial cable will do the trick) I bet the display says UNLOCK. I had the same problem, very dumb.

Good day!

No picture?

I called sony, even though the manuel shows that you can use a component wire to hook up the set top box and hdmi for the tv and dvd sony claims that you can not do this. The cable box must also be wired with an hdmi cable going into the video 2 claims it doesn't work using component and hdmi together because the receiver is unable to up convert. I hope this helps. I have not tried it yet (i'm at work) we'll see what happens when i get home.
