Question about Canon PIXMA MP600 all-In-One InkJet Printer

Error code: U150 The following ink tank cannon be recognized (Cyan)

I cannot print (or clean) my printer due to the above message. The Cyan Cartridge used to work fine, and it's still 70 % full. I reinstalled the blue ink cartridge several time, turned the printer off and on, but the same message keeps appearing. When I push the cartridge in, the printer seems to recognize the cartrdige, as the red light turns on, but when I close the printer, the U150 message appears. What can I do? I hope you can help me.

    I have a different model but mine does the same exact thing that you described and I'm always out buying ink cartridges. Replacing ones that are still full. It's annoying. I'd also love to know a solution. No help from Canon support.

    Have exactly the same problem. Did not try a new ink tank as the current one is full, and it had been working ok for some time.

    I have exactly the same problem with my Canon MP600 printer (cartridge not recognised). It looks like that there is a fault with this printer that only affects the cyan cartridge. Surely Canon must be well aware of this problem. I am now awaiting reply from Canon Customer Support.

    I have the same problem, only mine is not recognizing the black cartridge (PGI-5BK). On the phone now with tech support... he says he will send me another printer... waiting for him to come back online... don't know if that's a new or refurbished... ok, probably a refurb... can possibly send me to a certified repair center....

    Well, I'm going to call the repair center to see what they say before I decide which way to go.

    Yes, I have the same problem with both the cyan and yellow cartridges. It just started out of the blue. I have to turn the printer off and on again and it then works OK. Weird hey! I've been so impressed by the print quality but this is really annoying. I've had the printer for 11 months and it's worked beautifully until now!

    Have same problem with yellow cartridge [CLI-8Y]. Half full. Came our of blue.
    All other help sites do not publish a solution. HELP!

    I have the same problem with the cyan tank. I replaced the tank when it was over half full and a week later, got the same message again on the cyan tank.Any suggestions on fixing it?

    I bought my printer 6 months ago and used it very little I still have more than 90% ink for color Magent and each time I tun it on or remove the cartiage and but it back in it's place I get the message

    "The following ink tank cannot be recognized"

    Which stops me from printing.

    How can I fix this problem.

    remove cartridge and put back in, plenty of ink always have had problems with cyan does not rec. have cleaned and deep cleaned

    iv been having the same probs but with the pink one :'( i rang Noal Lemming, Palmerston North, NEW ZEALAND on 06 3530114 and they said i have a extended warrenty for 3 years so to just bring it in and they will sort it. but i said there r millions of others that r having the same problems and what r they ment to do if they DONT have extened warrentys, and the guy (typical nobrain salesman) said i duno. i asked for canon's 0800 (freecall in NZ) number and got alot more joy :> the freecalling NZ number is 0800 222 666 (pick option 3, to save time being put on the "ill just put you thru to someone else, WHO CAN HELP" merry go round). he said by the sounds of what iv found and been reading on online help site's that it is prob more likely to be a fault with the ink tank chip thingy on the front at the bottom of the ink tank, andd took a few details and is sending me a new one in the post. and if that doesnt solve the prob, we will THEN go to the next step. i hope this does give some of you out there a bit of insite to the hundreds and thousands of faults with the same problem. and to those that read the thingy about fixing it with masking tape, i tried and tried this, spent 3 F__KING hours doing it and it DIDNT WORK, it only mad me more pissed of and frustrated :'( in the future, i recommened ringing help and support in your own country before getting advice from an online site that is not from the manufactures :) good luck to all :) ill post another comment again if getting a new pink ink tank thingy posted to my home for FREE DOES NOT WORK!!! cheers for the help and advice

    My printer has the same problem, U150 Cyan. The ink cartridge is 90% full and was replaced less than 4 months ago. This error has basicly made this machine useless. I am very dissapointed with Canon.

    MP600 7 Months old only printed 50 pages max, half ink in all cartridges but printer says cannot recognise them. Bought new but same problem. Another £120.00 wasted on a printer that is not fit for purpose SIMPLE DONT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM CANON THEY ARE A WASTE OF TIME

U150 ink error fixed!

I too was getting the error for unrecognized ink cartridge. Then the little green circ board fell out of the end of the ink cartridge and it hit me that maybe if I put in the little green circ board from the old ink cartridge of the same color, then maybe the ink cartridge would be recognized. It worked! So don't throw out an ink cartridge that still has ink just because of that error and hold onto your empty cartridges in case you need the little green/gold circ boards.

This works!

The U150 problem is all too common and apparently there is no fix other than replacing the ink tank the error code refers to. I've gone through cartridges in the past 3 months, all of which were original Canon products and were over 50% full. From experience, this U150 error can happen to any ink tank and it completely shuts the printer off from any further use.

Before I bought the printer I read rave reviews about Canon printers. Looks like we all got duped.

The good news: Office Depot replaces "damaged" cartridges. This is my only solution to this problem. At least we'll get our money back. This is certainly an issue, Canon has to solve. Other than that I think this printer is much better than other products in this price range.

Error code U150 The following ink tank cannot be recognized

First, make sure you have the right ink cartridges. Here are the right codes: CLI-8BK and PGI-5BK for black, Yellow - CLI-8Y, Magenta - CLI-8M, Cyan - CLI-8C.

If the ink lamp is off then an ink tank error has occurred. Try to remove the ink tank and re-seat it. Make sure you removed the plastic cover on the ink tank. If nothing helped, you need to replace the faulty ink tank.

I have Canon M560 printer installed 8 months ago. I replaced the CLI 221 Magenta and CLI221 Cyan ink cartridges, won't work and got this message Error 1411. MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

Error messages: U150 + Ink tank errors have occured

Reset Canon MP600 to the Factory Setting
  1. Press the HOME button.
  2. Use the Easy-Scroll Wheel or the right/left arrow to select Settings, and then press OK button.
  3. Use the Easy-Scroll Wheel or the right/left arrow to select Device settings, then press the OK button.
  4. Use the Easy-Scroll Wheel (B) or the up/down arrow to select Reset settings, then press the OK button.
  5. Use the Easy-Scroll wheel or the up/down arrow to select Yes on the confirmation screen and then press OK.
  6. Press the HOME button to return to the HOME menu.

  • Replace a new Canon ink cartridge as it could be due to the unique features that Canon has build on their ink cartridge not done properly which resulted to be faulty. Report the issue to Canon if your existing ink cartridge is not from other 3rd party band, Canon should be able to do 1 to 1 exchange once confirmed that it is their ink cartridge problem. Cannon has build the unique feature to prevent users from misusing 3rd party ink cartridge on their printer.
  • Other times if by replacing new ink cartridge the problem for error code still occurs, it might be the pin on the print-head has lost the alighting, this will require for Canon to service to alight back the pin on print-head in order for the printer to operate smoothly again.
  • Or missing pin has dropped off from the print-head which causes the printer not able to read the ink cartridge, printer needs to be serviced.
  • (Maybe check with your own nearby technician if by any lucks they can help to rescue your printer, which I hope Canon does not have further enhancement on their printer with other Unique features to prevent users from using 3rd party technical support.)

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I have a canon mp510 pixma same message U043 and a u150 fault.
I cant see any chip to replace and have replaced my original cartridges with a non branded cheaper type, this might be why. Does this make a difference or is this the same problem occurring with replacement canon cartridges as well.

Dont want to buy genuine ones if its not going to make any difference.

Anyone who can help me would be appreciated

Hey- i just wanted to say that I had the same problem with my MP600. Unlike some people, I have a problem buying ripoff cartridges from a store. I use my printer alot and I simply refill these. You can buy any refill kit and especially with these cartridges, drill a hole near the top and just fill it and plug it. The sponge sucks it up and you're all set. As far as the Chip problem-it is a pain in the ass and the **** at Canon probably won't fix it. HOWEVER, if you still want to print and don't mind that your ink counter says that you are empty simply hold the "STOP/RESET" and the "Black" print button together until it clears and you'll be set. I do it all the time and I know it works on the later MPs. Check it out and stick it to the man
