No, that's not the problem. It was tried in several sockets, and it never gets a chance ot heat up. It just shuts down after a short while. At first, it was a minute or 2, and then very rapidly it went to only about 5 seconds.
I replaced the bulb with a new one, and it shuts down even faster.
It has to be a part in the power supply (ballast) to the bulb.

I don't have the projector with me right now since it is in Uruguay and I am in the States.
However, I don't think that this will work because the bulb will not stay on long enough to see much on the screen.
I will give it a try when I get back to Uruguay, but I hope that somneone who actually repairs these projectors will know which componet is burned out on the lamp power board.
Or do you know where I can get a schematic diagram for it?

It only stays on a few seconds befor ethe lamp turns off, so it is not at all hot.

I have tried it in several sockets with very good circuits, an dthey all do the same.

It has to be a problem in the board which drives the lamp. I need a technical person to repsond who acutlaly repairs projectors.

The lamp on the Dell 2200MP lights, then about 20 seconds later goes off and the temperature light blinks orange. Dell chat/support says it is un-repairable. Any thoughts?

This projector, almost since new, turns the lamp on for about 15 seconds and then the lamp shuts off. I have taken it to 6 technicians here in Uruguay, and none of them know anything. If the unit is left...

there is a problem with the power to the front fan from the main board. there are 3 wires going to the fans: one power, one return, and one signal. if the main board reads no signal from the fan's speed, it'll shut down. check the power going to the fans and the signal. you may need to replace the main board.

The lamp indicator turns on

The clicking noise is the protection switch that keep shutting down the unit. This happens when an internal fault had been detected.

Do the following:

Unplug the unit from power for some time.
Remove the bulp and refit it in place.
Restart the unit.

If still in protect mode (clicking , lamp light and no start), then there is a fault.
When the problem is the lamp, the lamp light will come on, but usually protection does not click.
Before buying a new lamp that is expensive, have the projector checked, testing with particular attention the high voltage board that will supply power to the lamp. That may be the fault.
If you have a replacement lamp in storage replace the lamp first.

Check that lamp cover microswitch closes (clicks). This microswitch disables the power supply when open. I had to bend the lever a bit to make it reliable.
