Gateway laptop not working

My original 65 w ac adapter for my Gateway MA2 6021GZ notebook caught on fire for no reason a year ago. I went back to Best Buy and they sold me a Targus 90w adapter. A few weeks ago my notebook stopped working. the blue light on the Targus adapter still comes on though. Is my notebook damaged or is it the Targus adapter. I call Gateway support but they really don't know what they're doing. Can you help? I'm desperate. Thanks.

Re: gateway laptop not working

What is the problem with the notebook?

Do you get any lights on the notebook when its plugged in?

Have you tried another power adapter?

Gateway laptop mx6437 turns on but won't boot

It migt be resolved by a power drain. Disconnect the AC adapter, takeout the battery, and press the power button for 30 secs. Put everything back again and try to turn it on.

If your Noterbook is still not turning on, then you might need a phillips screwdriver, or if its in warranty you might want to take it to Gateway technicians, as opening the notebook by urself might void the warranty.

** Before trying the steps below, disconnect the AC adapter and take out the battery.

Turn your notebook upside down, and look for bays, look for screws which has a rectangular comb like structure next to it, unscrew it and you will find RAM chips in there take it out and put it back in. Do this for all the chips you have in the notebook.

Put everything back again and your Notebook might be up and running, else there might be some hardware issues and you need to go to gateway or some local tech.

I need a power adapter

If you want real cheap, then an universal AC adapter is your best option. Targus has one that you can purchase for 24.99 USD, which you can find here.
That adapter works for a wide variety of manufacturer's including Gateway. Also, this particular adapter can provide up to 70 watts of power. So any adapter that fits into that range will be fine on power consumption.
Your AC adapter takes approximately 65 watts of power and should be okay.
I hope this help.

I have Gateway MX6027 laptop. My ac adapter get real hot. i went through 2 chargers in the last 2 months. I am wondering if I got a short on the motherboard, or maybe if there is a voltage regulator that...

Does the AC adapter get hot if you use it to power the notebook with the main battery removed? If not, the battery or internal charging board may be faulty/
