I am based in the UK. Over Xmas I took my PS3 to my brother-in-laws house. He has a HD TV and we connected the PS3 to the TV using the HDMI cable. However we have come back to home today. At home we have SD TV. We connected the TV to the PS3 with the standard AV conector. Now it does not come up on the screen at all. What should i do?
While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.Good Luck!
There is an explanation on how to fix this in your PS3 manual - I cant remember off the top of my head, but it is really easy to sort out.
If you cant find your manual you can access them from the PS3 website.

hi there maybe some problem with ur tvs resolution. ps3 outputs full hd high resolution video(1080p) through its hdmi. may be your tv is not supporting that resolution. connect ps3's component video out to ur tv and then try. if it ask for any resolution selection. select 720p or 1080i, above that resolution ur tv will not support. ur tv is hd ready one, not full hd. ps3 's hdmi out is full hd (1080p). or try this connect ur ps3 to any full hd tv and then goto video setup of ur ps3. change resolution to 1080i (down scaling ). then connect to ur tv via hdmi. surly u will get the video. ok
Ok you must be using a a/v cable at your house? And the hdmi cable at your brother in laws? If this is the problem its not the xbox hdmi cable. It doesnt matter all hdmi cables work the same. Its your settings. You need to hold you power button down and it should come on and beep twice then release it and a settings menu should pop up if it doesnt hold the power button down until it comes on and shuts off then hold the power button down again until it beeps twice. Hope this helps.
Try connecting the PS3 to your TV with a scart cable first and go to the appropriate channel. The problem you are facing is probably because the default output is not HD. So you must change it to HD you can do this by going on your PS3 display settings, whilst your operating on standard definition, AV1 or something like that. When the you are on display settings plug the HD cable in the PS3 while still being on AV1 and then plug the cable in, this may prompt a message saying that a HDMI device has been detected and you can change to HD, if this message appears switch to the HDMI output and then select yes and automatic on the PS3 for optimal settings in HD. If the message does not appear then select the HD output yourself after plugging the HDMI cable in and then change to the channel and do the same.
1. Connect PS3 to your TV
2. Select the Correct HDMI input on your TV
3. Press and hold the [power] button on the PS3
4. perform setup.
These are the steps to setup the video output for the PS3, It is possible that it is set to a resolution that your TV does not support.
If this doesn't work, you may want to contact Sanyo to ask if they have some protection circuit for the HDMI input. Some manufactures TV's will deactivate(turn OFF) the HDMI input under certain conditions. Unplugging the TV or some other procedure usually turns it back ON.
1. Turn ON TV
2. Connect PS3 to TV HDMI input
3. select TV HDMI input for PS3
4. turn OFF PS3 if it is ON
5. Press and hold the [I/O]Power button until the PS3 until you get the "HDMI Detected" message.
Also, this TV has a circuit that deactivates the HDMI if the rear cover is removed. It is possible the HDMI may have been turned OFF. This is reset in the service menu of the TV.
You should get a good surge protector. Sometimes some areas have a spike in the power. That will cause interference in the TV signal coming from your PS 3. Try out different surge protectors that should solve your problem.
Supposedly games arent region encoded. In fact my brother has an american ps3 and a Resistance: FOM bought in Spain and its working fine. Yesterday I bought a Dream Theater DVD encoded for zones 3, 4 and 6 and it didnt play in my PS3 (Zone 1) so in fact the zone issue can be the problem. Regards
