JVC convergencehas to be adjusted everytime the TV is turned on

I just replaced the IC's on my JVC and now can adjust the convergence and the picture looks fine. But everytime the TV is turned off the convergence has to be readusted. No porblem setting the convergence but why everytime it is turned off and back on?I did not see anything on the convergence board other than the IC's that looked bad.Is this hard on the TV to keep adjusting the convergence? If I leave it turned on it stays good but it moves if turned off.

It does have the super focus but it has never worked well I have tried it but you still have to adjust it manually to get the best picture.I go to menu,Convergence there is Auto&Manual&Reset I pick manual make the changes and close the menu. There is not anything on the page that says save settings.I have never tried reset because the manual says if you do not like your picture use reset to go back to where you were before making the change.I take it that that is a default setting. The colors do not move much but enough that you have to readjust them.I have been just not turning it off and it stays put.I am worried that if I keep adjusting the convergence it will damage the TV.Any ideas you have would be appreciated very much.

Do I have to buy this service manual from JVC or is there somewhere else to get it?

  • damgood Dec 31, 2007

Thanks for your help saved me lots of money.I did find out the problem with the convegence not holding the setting. You had said I needed to get into the service menu to save it.I have a habit when making any adjustment to just hit back on the remote. So I would go to Convergence make the changes and hit Back the last time I did the convergence adjustment I caught myself and instead of hitting back hit enter.THE PROBLEM IS GONE AND THE SETTING STAYED.Just thought I would share this with you maybe it will help someone else in the future.

You will need to enter servicer mode to do the alignment then
save is in service manual........
Does your set have an auto-focus selection ? Try that first...T.

Have a Sony KP-65WV600, already replaced d board once, and replaced convergence ic's once also. Now as soon as I turn unit on, turns to red screen and shuts off, video that is, audio works ok, noticed...

Check High voltage Block. After replacing ic's (STK convergence ic's) you need to adjust Black&White scale.Turn ALL screen adjustments to min.Turn TV on and adjust screen slowly for each gun (I would start with Red first ) when you came to point that you see red background with white lines across, at that point G2 is too high (that will cause TV to shut down, don't worry just lowered adjustment and turn tv back on) so adjust to proper voltage and do the same for each gun. After that, adjust focus for each gun (again all controls are on High Voltage Block and HVB is mounted on front of your tv after you take speaker gril out) black box with 6 controls' screen RGB, focus RGB .
You should do that in dark room in order to get perfect Black&White scale, when all guns are adjusted properly you will see grey picture.Make sure 'Color" adjustment on your display is down to 0. Another step is convergence adjustment ,Flash Focus etc.If TV stil shuts off after all, your Red picture tube is short inside, take crt pcb from tube, make sure TV is unpluged from power before that, and turn Tv on .If stays On tube need replacment...good luck)

JVC AV-48WP30 convergence drifting after IC replacement

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Your TV may have one or more of the following symptoms....
  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$300

Mike, convergence adjustments are in your menu, usually under "video" settings. You have to adjust red & blue onto the green, when you`ve done it correctly the "cross" will be pure white, if you cannot move either of the colors left, right, & up, down then the convergence IC`s have failed and will have to be replaced, hope this answers your question, BMW Rider

Convergence always needs tweaking

This sounds to me as if you have a defective convergence output IC, whose gain is now sensitive to heat. As the IC gets warm, the gain changes and you see the colors separate. If you do not want to do any soldering then have the IC replaced by someone with experience in convergence circuits.
