Replaced the lamp in my Panasonic PT-40LC12 TV

Replaced the lamp in my Panasonic PT-40LC12 TV about 8 months ago and a message now appears stating that the lamp hour meter needs to be reset. Additionally, shortly after the message started appearing the picture started getting worse and now there are specs all over the screen. Does anyone know hoe to get the message to go away and do you know if this will correct the picture issues I am having?
