If your hard drive is SATA, you need drivers for that either as floppy drive or slipstream into yr WinXP CD using nlite. Heres a tutorial:

Sometimes it happen if you are using illegal windows version, and somtimes happen if you have vista and you want to downgrade to Xp, if you had vista before try to format by vista cd, rebot than load the xp.

open your CPU and unplug the IDE or your SATA cable...unplug also the power of your hardrive the reconnect again......i think your hardrive was not detected.

Hi,

If you have access to another computer, download Gparted BootDisk

This will boot on any system and allow the format assuming the hard drive is actually working
