Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.
To fix any noise issues that your Dyson vacuum gives, a proper maintenance will do the trick. Most of the time cleaning the filters, checking for blockages and clearing the passageways will eliminate the noise. You may refer to your Dyson model's online manual on how to do this by clicking the link below.

SOURCE: Power shuts off on my dyson dc17 animal
My DC 17 Animal would only work when the brush was in the down position & the hose attachment wouldn't work at all. There was no suction. We had to take it in to be serviced & discovered that there is another filter in the system that Dyson doesn't tell you about. The person at the service center said he sees this problem a lot with this model because there is nothing about it in Dyson's consumer documentation.

Use the upholstery brush supplied to unclog the perforations on the Dyson filter; the clogged holes don't impede on suction so you dont have to worry about this. It can be annoying however when you see it.

SOURCE: My dyson DC17 will not turn on unless the handle
Not sure if I can help, but I'll try. The DC17 has two motors: the vacuum motor and a separate motor for the brush bar. It is normal that the brush motor works only when the handle is pulled back in the vacuuming position - that's the way it's made. So, when you say "my DC17 won't turn on", I'm not sure if you mean the vac motor, the brush motor, or both. If the vacuum motor won't turn on, then you've got a problem I can't help you with.
As for no suction through the hose, I have to ask... are you sure your vacuum motor is working at all? Even with the hose stored away, the machine still relies on suction through that hose. If you're sure the motor is working, then either you've got a blockage that you haven't yet found (there's at least one inspection port, a sort of U tube at bottom right of machine, that you need to check), or it could be that you've got a hole in the flexible hose (which opens only when the hose is extended).
Sorry if this is a bit garbled, but I'm puzzled by your problem. If you want to come back with more details I'll try again for you!
SOURCE: Cannot reinstall valve pipe assembly on Dyson dc17 vacuum
Take off the cyclone canister and flip open the filter cover. (The U-shaped tube at the bottom of the vacuum is probably already off-if not, release the lock with a screwdriver and remove it.) Release the vacuum from the upright positon, so that the head is extended. Align the value pipe assembly so that the clear tabs line up while the small extension off the value pipe faces the front of the vacuum (ie, is near the filter area). Now you have to carefully twist the value pipe clockwise while lining us the small extension with the black groove inside the head piece by moving the head back into the upright positon at the same time. Replace the U-shaped tube.
