Re: No signal on new GPS Delphi

Return it to the store. I got one for Christmas and right out of the box it always said "New Route" and would never give me directions. The one I exchanged it for works perfectly.

Gps is stuck in new york it is shearching for singal

GPS in New York can come in contact with a numerous unwanted signals, including illegal GPS blockers, or it could be searching for a signal but it can't because of cloudy atmosphere. You did not state what model it is, nor you have stated whether it shuts down or freezes. The answer to your problem lies on the correct questions. That you're stuck in New york, I have no idea what it means. Sorry.

"Poor GPS Reception" error on iPhone Tom Tom GPS

Unfortunately it appears the iPhone's GPS chip isn't up to much as we've all suspected. Some people can get it working while many are reporting, like you, that they get drop outs and poor signal strength errors. This is happening accross all the iPhone Sat Nav apps so it points the finger at the GPS chip itself, especially as many of these people are stating they have dedicated tomtoms and the like that work fine. I've tried Copilot, tomtom and others on the iPhone 3GS and none are able to keep signal long enough to be any good. In fact they are a complete waste of money. It's no suprise Tomtom are releasing a cradle for the iPhone which includes a seperate more powerful GPS receiver...

My 6 month old Nuvi 760 turns on, but no signal

It is entirely possible you need a new battery. Use and abuse shortens the battery life. Starting the engine while GPS connected or overcharging on AC or PC.

If it fails to acquire on full charge or replaced battery then it has a damaged chip from the usage i stated above. Not warrantble either.

Always "Waiting for GPS Signal"

The waiting for signal message just means it can’t get satellite reception where you are. you most likely need to utlize the Optional external GPS antenna. This is a common problem in the midwest and southwestern states. if this has happened since you bought it. the internal antenna couldve come loose. Which means you may have got a defective unit from the factory. But my guess is you just need to utilize the external antenna.

its like thinking of a cell phone and how some people dont always get a signal. now in gps it needs 3x the signal. with 1/8th of the communications satellites cell phones have.
so as more and more people get tom toms the harder it is for each unit to work, and less signal can be partitioned to your unit at the time of use. where as cell phones only need 2 towers, GPS needs 4 satellites.

TOM TOM 910 no gps signal.

If TomTom is stating there's is "No GPS Device" then you don't have TomTom configured properly. You need to set TomTom to use "Other Wired GPS", select 4800 or 9600 bps and set to COM4. Once this is done it should detect the GPS and it will either show you your current position or it will say no valid GPS signal.

Use GPSTest application (search on google or on this website) to test your GPS. It will automatically scan your device, detect the GPS and give you a lock on your current position.

Hope that helps. quote.gif
