Re: canon powershot a 40

Open the disk normally and find the .exe program setup as you normally would to install the program. Right click on this, choose Properties, click on the Compatibility tab, check the "Run in compatibility mode for.." and choose XP (if no XP choose NT), apply then OK. It should work now.

It would be easier to get a card reader for about $10 or $15 at an electronics store. They hook right up and thee is less chance of damaging your cameras USB port.

If your camera is not relatively new and you're running Vista, Vista may have problems seeing it. Unfortunately, this can't be corrected as Canon did not update the drivers for their older cameras to be compatible with Vista. But there exists a good, if not better alternative way to download your photos. Please don't take the following as a sales pitch as it's not, but please see this link, as it describes the use of an inexpensive USB card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

We have 2 cameras; Powershot S50 with Digital Camera Solutions Disk v 12.2 & Arcsoft Camera Suite 2.0 software.IXUS 40 with Digital Camera Software starter guide Disk v 2.1, Digital Camera Solutions Disk v...

The good news is that both of these Canon Cameras will work with just about any photo software you want to use. The choice of which program to use can be based on which one you like best, which one is easiest for you to work with. Some of your older disks may not work in Vista, so that may limit your choices. One possible alternative is to try Irfanview, which is a free and very highly rated image editor program.

+driver for canon powershot a 40 on vista

I had same problem. Called Canon and found out A40 is not compatible with Vista so there is no driver. But you can download pics to your Vista by purchasing USB Memory Card Reader/Writer you can find at Walmart for about $12.00. You put your Flash card in device and has USB that plugs in computer for downloading pics.
