Sometimes this is caused by a loose video cable. Try taking off the keyboard and gently pull up & then reseat the video cable.
Plz be sure to do this with the machine unplugged AND battery removed.

Hi you need to re-carry out the procedure you used to switch the display in the first place, i.e. usually you press Fn and F4 or F8 to switch to an external display then again to switch back, hope this helps.

Try updating your video driver. Also, try connecting your machine to external monitor and see if there's a display if not i then confirmed that you planar is faulty.

Note: If machine is under warranty no need to pay for the repairs.

A blank screen on ibm thinkpad R51

your wires connecting from your laptop hardware to your display is messed up and is only "re-connected" and "hot-wired" by your action of closing/opening the lid.... use your warranty... your problem is when your warranty is expired so be glad this happened when you still have warranty

R51 Thinkpad Monitor Problems

To answer your question Morgan, yes you can get a new LCD display for your laptop! Typically people sell the entire assembly which is the screen, backlight, display cable. It then fits into the thin plastic casing around your current screen. They are actually pretty easy to replace the problem is you oftentimes have to remove the computers keyboard, and other pieces of plastic on the top that might be in the way. Also there are usually anchoring screws on the bottom that have to be removed as well. There should be one little teeny tiny cable you have to pull out that connects to the mainboard, and then reconnect with the new display. Try this website if you want to order a new one their price is only $120 (which is great for a new LCD screen).

My r51 laptop is showing a padlock and i cannot boot it up whats

The power on password is stored on an EEPROM chip. There are no backdoor passwords. There is a hack but you need to have some electronic skills and you need to pull the laptop apart.
