Re: single entry of operating system

What makes you think that you have three operating systems on your machine? Are you offered three different versions when your computer boots? Did you install to different HDD's or partitions / folders?

I am trying to get rid of the xp home security 2011 virus.

Manual Removal:
1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del on keyboard to stop process associated to "XP Home Security 2011?. When Windows Task Manager opens, go to Processes Tab and find and end the following process:
(random characters).exe
2. You need to update your installed antivirus application to have the latest database.
3. Thoroughly scan the computer and any detected threats must be removed. If removal is prohibited, it is best to quarantine the infected item. Manually locating and deleting of malicious files should also be performed. Please see files below that are related to XP Home Security 2011 Virus.
4. Registry entries created by XP Home Security 2011 must also be remove from the Windows system. Please refer below for entries associated to the rogue program. [how to edit registry]
5. Exit registry editor.
6. Get rid of XP Home Security 2011 start-up entry by going to Start > Run, type msconfig on the "Open" dialog box. A windows containing System Configuration Utility will be launched. Go to Startup tab and uncheck the following Start-up item(s):
(random characters).exe
7. Click Apply and restart the computer.
XP Home Security 2011 Removal Tool:
In order to completely remove the threat from a computer, it is best to download and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Sometimes, Trojans will block the downloading and installation of MBAM. If this happens, download it from a clean computer and rename the executable file before executing on the infected computer.
Using Portable SuperAntiSpyware:
To thoroughly clean a computer, it is best to do a separate scan of another security program so that other infected files not detected by anti-virus application can be remove as well. Download and run SuperAntiSpyware Portable Scanner.

I installed Windows XP a second time on my hard drive hence I now have a menu on boot up where I select which operating system I wish to use. I have since delted the second install of XP but the menu...

If you just formatted the partition with the second XP installation on there, it should remove the boot menu where you choose which installation to go to.
Here are a few options for you to choose from.
  • Option One: Open Start-Run and enter msconfig Click the tab "BOOT.INI" The contents of the boot.ini file are shown and a number of configuration settings are available. Under Operating systems, delete the one you don't want. Be careful not to delete the wrong one.
  • Option Two: Right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties" from the context menu. The System Properties dialog box will open. In the section "Startup and Recovery" click the button "Settings". To delete the unwanted operating system from the boot display menu, use the "Edit" button on the right of the entry.
  • Option Three: If the OS is Windows XP Professional, it has a command line utility for manipulating boot.ini called bootcfg.exe.
Click start, type CMD, click OK and you are presented with the command prompt. Type bootcfg /? It will list the description and parameter list. Once again, you can delete the unwanted OS.
  • Option Four: Boot to the XP install disk and open up the command prompt utility of the disk. Enter "fixmbr" and press enter. Restart the computer and remove the disk.

I have microsoft windows xp professional. i have promble to remove unwantd program by add / remove

Uninstalling/ removing a software can be a little difficult sometimes, but NOT impossible.
CCleaner is a small size and very useful utility for system maintenance. I have been using it for years and no problems at all.

So, first download CCleaner from the following link and install it and follow these steps.

1. Open CCleaner
2. Click Tools, Select the software you want to uninstall, click it
3. Click Run uninstaller
Hopefully, this would remove the program.creativetech_1.jpg

Otherwise, go to 'program file' and manually delete the unwanted program and run CCleaner to remove its registry entries (Scan for issues).
Let me know if any further assistance is required

I want to install windows XP sevice pack 2.but if i input in the product key it's invalid. Why,so help me???

If you bought it online, you have to contact the online store who sold it to you. Or if you bought it from a retailer, call them up and clarify. There might be a mistake or perhaps you've been given a wrong serial key. In case they can't help you, ask them for a replacement.
Please make sure, you type the correct key written on the Cd case otherwise it'll never accept even with a single mistake.
Good luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Large space between apps in add/remove programs

Download tweak XP from the net, install it, run it, there is a tab named ADD/REMOVE programs, it DOES NOT add or remove programs, rather, it allows you to edit the Add/Remove program List only, so you should select the "blanks" and remove the from the list. ReClarify: IF you remove an entry from the Add/Remove tab using Tweak XP, It will no longer be available under windows control panel add/remove and if it IS still installed you will NOT have a way to remove the program.

On my pc running win xp pack2 i want to install win 2000 pro. how can i do it? please suggest me.

You can either run a dual-boot system where you can boot into XP and Pro when you start your computer, or reformat and install 2k.

If you want to dual-boot you would need a blank partition on which to install it. Unfortunately if you do not already have more than one partition on your current drive, it would be difficult to split a single partition drive into adding another partition unless you are familiar with the tools required to perform such an operation.

However, if you only need to install 2k without having access to XP, all you need to do is insert the Win 2k disk and follow the installation wizard. When it comes to selecting where to install, it should show a partition containing winXP, which you can then install 2K to. Remember, all files on your XP install, including the operating system itself, will be removed. You would lose everything on that partition. If it is a single partition drive, anything on the drive is removed. You should back up any files you want to save by either transfering them to a different drive if you have one, or burning them to CDs/DVDs.

Select the partition you want to install to (if it's a single partition disk, there will only be one listed. If there are more partitions, you can select a different partition to install to which would allow you to keep XP), and I would recommend selecting reformatting the partition to NTFS.

Once it is done reformatting and copying files, it will ask to restart. Restart the computer, but do not press any keys upon startup when it pauses to ask to boot from CD. Wait until the 2K graphical installer loads from the disk, and then you can follow the setup wizard for 2K.

If you have any questions or problems, please add a new post stating them, and I will try to answer.
