Re: Operating system not found, hard disk not found...

Drive is not seated properly ,OS not installed correctly or boot sector damaged.Getting the T20 HDD istalled can be tricky if any of the pins are slightly bent .
These can all be repaired, unfortunately the actual HDD connecter on the board may be damaged as sometimes happens &really means the end for your laptop

Your hard drive is most likely bad or the ribbon cable is not connected.

Operating system not found

Which operating system? this error message usually relates to xp.
An Operating System Not Found error typically crops up in the start-up cycle for a computer, before Windows has had a chance to load.
The computer is letting you know that there is a problem with that normal start-up cycle, and it has come at a point where it would be expecting Windows to take over from the BIOS--the software built in to your computer's motherboard.

Insert the Windows install disk for your version of Windows and reboot the PC.
With the computer unable to find the operating system on the hard drive, it may skip automatically to the next possible boot device, which should be the CD or DVD-ROM drive.
Some systems may be configured to boot to that source first, and others may not be configured to roll over to the next device at all.
When in doubt, there should be an option to select boot device when the computer is first powered on (the F12 key on most Dell computers) and you can boot straight to the optical drive from there.
Press any key when prompted to boot to the install disk, then follow the on-screen instructions. You'll want to try to perform a repair on the existing Windows install, which you will get to by first selecting a new install of Windows.

Select to install a new operating system, and the install package will look to see if Windows is already installed.
If it finds the existing install, the installer should give you a chance to perform a repair of what's currently on the hard drive, replacing corrupted files with clean ones from the install disk.

If the Windows installer does not detect an existing Windows install on the hard drive, then the hard drive itself may be at fault.
Replace the hard drive and repeat the first few steps to install Windows from scratch.
The original hard drive is likely corrupted or otherwise broken, and may not be recoverable at all, outside of an expensive, third-party data retrieval service.

Operating system not found

there is problem with your hard disk. your hard disk wire may be loose. try to remove and refix all sata wires of your hard disk. "operating system not found" message may be coming because you may have not installed any os (windows, linux or mac) in your notebook. try to install operating to system to fix this. there may also be proble with your hard disk, your hard disk may be dead. if your notebook is showing message "operating system not found" without any reason then you may have put your notebook in high magnetic field area. due to high magnetic field, sometimes hard disk's are formatted automatically.

Operating system not found on my laptop wot does that mean?

Operating system not found simply means that the laptop cannot detect that there's an operating system installed on your laptop.
It's either the hard disk got disabled in BIOS or the installed windows is corrupted. You might need to check in BIOS if the hard disk is still detected. If it is, make sure that on the Boot options, hard disk is selected as the first boot option. If it is, then that means that the windows installed on your laptop is corrupted therefore you might need to install windows using the recovery discs of your laptop.
By the way, to go to BIOS start tapping on F10 once the laptop starts to boot up.
Let me remind you that by doing this it will erase everything on the hard disk.
Good luck!

I can't boot up the Vista install on a Sony Vaio VGN-NR160E

go to your BIOS Setup, see to it that there is a Hard Disk Boot Priority, maybe you didn't put it there.

Operating system not found media test failure will not reboot aspire 3680

Installing an operating system from one computer and inserting it into another computer will not work specially when they are from different manufacturers because the components in them are different.
The Windows install has to be done on the intended computer.
The media test failure error message refers to a faulty disk controller or a faulty hard disk.

Error - The Hard Disk Was Not Found

Boot into the BIOS, I think you hit the Delete key on Dell's to get into the BIOS, but I'm not sure. You should see some type of message at boot that says "To enter setup press XXX" Where XXX is the Delete key or some other key.

Once you're in the BIOS setup see if your HDD is listed. You may also find the option to reset the BIOS to default. Generally speaking this will not hurt anything and may be worth a try.
