Installation problems I bought a brand new HP laptop for my son. On the initial start up the installation was apparently interuppted. Now I don't know whether my boy knocked anything or not but the machine is no coming with the message " The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. However, when you do this the same message appears. I think it has part loaded but stopped. Is there something that I can do to reverse this process and start again or does the laptop need replacing? HELP!!! His xmas has been ruined and the company I bought from are obviously closed!! Many thanks

Re: Installation problems

I presume you are installing from the CD? Can you select to not boot from CD, and get to a DOS prompt, and then format C: drive? You need to delete the failed installation and start again.

My recommendation: Install XP.
Well, not that there actually something wrong, but it initially came with XP or Vista. It depends. HP puts it a XP. Check your MS Product key sticker.

It is a simply determination that the laptop just does not have a enough resources to run Win 7 effectively. How do I know, I am using an HP 2.3GHz with XP. I tried Win 7 awhile back and immediately removed it. If fact, I do clean install of XP at least once a year. I do test more software than most.

Here is my Slow Windows Machine! default fix.
  • Sounds like not enough resources such as RAM and CPU. Check Performance in Task-Manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE).
  • Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when you initiate.

Oh yea, in your case disable AREO, and u
se a virus protection with a smaller footprint. Like MS Security Essentials. My PC just couldn't handle McAfee or the likes.

When you replace the motherboard/CPU you most likely need to re-install Windows on your hard disk with the HP recovery CD.
If you have a Windows installation CD you can use this to re-install Windows.
Boot up with your Windows installation CD to install the operating system on your hard disk, you will also need the product installation code, this is printed on the Windows label on the bottom of your laptop.

Wireless Connectivity lost after installation of StartRight application software

Just a question .... Did it connect ok before you installed this new software?

If the answer is yes, uninstall the software, if still not connecting after that, restore your computer to before that software was installed.

Let me know if this helps, if not, please, write back so we can go from there.
