Upon insertion of cd for installation that came with my mp3 player I get a notice from device manager program that states that I need to load an update service pack 1 or later, where do I find the right one to download?

It depends what exactly the message is saying. If it is telling you to download a service pack 1/2 driver then just google it and see what you find. However if it is trying top get you to use the device on a a mahcine running windows sp2 then you must buy windows sp2 if you cannot find any compatable drivers for windows sp1.

You can download content to a Philips GoGear multimedia player using Windows Media Player or MusicMatch Jukebox in Windows. Earlier versions of Windows starting with 2000/ME and XP are compatible with GoGear. If the device is not recognized by the Windows XP operating system or is receiving error messages, you may have older versions of the necessary software installed. There also may be firmware issues with the GoGear device.
Instructions
Connect the Philips GoGear to another USB port on the computer. Sometimes USB ports go out, especially those in the front of the computer case. Try inserting the GoGear into another port and see if XP can now recognize the device.
Download Service Pack 1 or later for the XP operating system (see Resources). Philips GoGear can only operate on XP systems with at least Service Pack 1 installed. You may also receive an error message pertaining to the service pack when trying to insert the installation disc for the GoGear support software.
Install the latest version of Windows Media Player. Philips GoGear requires at least Windows Media Player 11. Windows Media Player 11 is available for XP .
Install the latest version of MusicMatch Jukebox (see Resources). Earlier version of this software may be causing error messages regarding missing MP3 tag information and missing tracks. Follow the download prompts, then unzip the folder and click on the "HDD_xxx.exe" installation file. The latest version of the software will be installed.
Install the latest firmware on the Philips GoGear. The actual firmware required depends on your GoGear model. Open either Philips Device Manager or Songbird, depending upon which management software you are currently using. Close all programs on the computer except for the Device Manager/Songbird. Connect the GoGear to the power supply and the computer. Click the "Repair" tab in the Device Manager and click "Repair," or click "Tools" in Songbird and select "Check for updated firmware," and the firmware will be updated on the GoGear.
There is a lock on the side - unlock it and try charging again. Hold in the volume + button on the mp3 player, and reconnect the player to your pc while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the volume + for 10-15 seconds until a "Found New Hardware Wizard" pops up. It should recover your device if there isn't anything internally wrong with the player. Code 10 errors can be resolved by completely uninstalling the Philips Device Manager and other software that came with the GoGear installation CD, and then reinstalling the clean version of the software from the Philips website. Then running a Repair. The version of the Device Manager that is on the installation CD is not the same version as the one from the website.

You must run a repair using the Philips Device Manager that came with the CD. After you have done that, you must run the "update" with the Philips Device Manager.
Repair=1 time fix
Update=permanent fix
