- Hi Woodchuck789,
The fridge know has a clicking sound comming from the back. Could it be the motherboard? If so are the probelms stemmed to the motherboard. This fridge is 4 years old.
Thanks,
vwahr

- Service repairman from GE is comming to look at motherboard. There is an ongoing class action suite about defective motherboards al some models of GE refridgerators. I found the servicers letter on applianceguru.com. It lists makes and model numbers for all refridgertors that the produce. Your website has the consumer letter that was to be sent.
If the defrost thermostat is bad it can prevent the heater from
coming on OR it won’t turn the heater off when it gets too warm. It is clamped
to the evaporator coil, which is behind the rear cover inside the freezer, at the top to sense the temp. If it appears to be
misshapen it is bad. With an ohm meter it should show continuity when
cold and none when warm.
Dispenser: If you can't hear the solenoid on the water
inlet valve(it's on the back where the water supply hooks up) when you try the
water then the water switch on the dispenser is at fault. This could also be the problem with the ice dispenser. Here is a diagram of your dispenser. Part 93 is the control switch. See if the clicking is coming from it. http://www.partselect.com/MultiModels.aspx?ModelNum=GSS20IEPJ&searchTerm=img_00116044i01&RefineSearch=0&imgMfg=GE

- Yes, the motherboard can cause just about every problem that can happen and when they start clicking something is wrong with it.
Thanks for using FixYa. The clicking sound is due to a faulty relay. There are 6 relays on the control board, relay K6 is for water dispenser and K3 for defrost control. These relays usually go bad and it is suggested to replace the control board as other relays might go bad as well.
The warranty is for 5 years which covers any part of the sealed
refrigerating system (the compressor, condenser, evaporator, and all
connecting tubing) which fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship.
During this five-year
warranty, GE will also provide, free of charge, all labor and in-home
service to replace the defective part in the sealed refrigerating system.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

my ge side by side refrigerator keeps stopping for periods of time, ice cream melts and then its starts running again on its own. This is the second refridgerator of this type I have owned in the last three years, had the same problem with the previous one (only 2 years old). Why?

first ice dispenser and water dispenser were slow to trigger, then stopped working with dislay blinking, then temperature display went blank and showed "HRS", now just blank and no cooling.
