Question about Compaq Presario X1000 Notebook
There are only three issues it could be...
1. The ATI video card has become warped due to overheating which woulod need to be replaced. You can find them used on Ebay for around $65 or new for around $125.
2. The cable has become frayed that connectects the video card to the inverter board due to opening/closing the laptop. Like $7 on Ebay.
3. The ribbon cable connection to the LCD panel itself has started to come undone which is also a common problem. Around $125 on Ebay.
You can try pressing down above the F5 key to see if the screen will come back up.
-Please give me a thumbs up :)

My X1000 laptop LCD had the same problem. A little while back, the screen was out but I was able to get back after movng the screen up & down. But a few days it just went blank, but I can still see the shadow of the running program. When I hooked to external monitor, I can work. I called HP & they want to charge me upto to $700 for the LCD. I ended up buying a new Compaq Pressario C751NR @Bestuy for $500. Hope I can find someone to fix the LCD so my kid can use it.

Kukra - this is a well known issue with the x1000 that was heavily discussed about 2 years ago, when it happened to several of us. The problem is the video card, which was over-rated by compaq making it slowly fry over several years. Eventually, it pops out causing the black screen. If you send it back to HP/Compaq they will charge you $400 or so to 'fix' the problem, which essentiually means they replace the video card for you. A poster on a message board was in the planning stages of a class action lawsuit, however I do not know how far that went.
For what it's worth - I sent mine back to Compaq to get it fixed (before reading all of the above) and it's been running fine since (about 2 years).

Im pretty sure its your video card. I have the same problem. As a matter of fact I also have problems with the mouse pad not working properly. I wont be buying presario again.
