Does anybody have ever made a comparison between the Zassenhaus "knee" model (156) and the regular ones (151, 161, 153, 154...)?
The "knee" model seems to be more convenient (because you can hold it firmly, and this seems to be a necessity when you grind fine for espresso), but the fineness adjustment has to be held firmly in place while grinding (according to Donn). Apparently, the other models don't have this problem, but they are more difficult to hold...
So... "knee" or not? And if not "knee", then which one: Closed Hopper (154), Open Hopper (161), regular box mill (151)? (I guess the difference is just in the way you load the beans).
Maybe I should just go with my gut, as everybody seems to be happy with his Zass (knee or not). Anyway, I can still hold the regular model between my knees, I guess (it will hurt a little bit, probably...).
Any opinion appreciated. Thanks! -Xavier

I am happy with my Box grinder (closed hopper) but bought Knee Grinders for my son-in-laws because I assumed they would be more comfortable. I discovered that they are not really easeir to hold between the knees but they are more difficult to hold down when grinding an a table top or on top of the the lap. The solid squareness of the Box Grinder and its stout proportions seem to make for stability.
The Knee Grinder's big plus is that the drawer is narrow and the coffee scoops out very easy with a coffee measuring spoon. (With the Box grinder I transfer the grounds to a small plastic bag or to my Avent "Coffee Dispenser" for measuring out my coffee. Have A Great Weekend All: Myron

I've been using my "knee knocker" for over one year and I've never had a problem with the adjustment knob not staying put.

Thank you all for your answers to this post! I think I'll go with one of the Box models. Andy, I don't know for the UK, but you might be able to mail-order from the US, at www.sweetmarias.com or www.1st-line.com or www.coffeebeanz.com (Pacific rim). I know, this seems strange to order a German tool from the US...

i bought the model 156 about 2 months ago (Knee model) and the adjustment collaar does move when the zass is in use. i had to put a drop of fingernail polish on the collar to keep track of it's movement and readjust it every few turns. but my setting is for espresso where the burrs are touching so this may be the reason the adjustment collar moves?

I think the kneebox has more style, but practically speaking does not work as well as the larger ones. I like the larger box models. In the past they made large box style models that had curved sides like the knee style only square and much larger. The best of both styles. No matter what style you get go to the hardware store and buy some urethane stick-on "feet" to put on the corners on the underside of the base. They make a big difference by making the grinder "stick" to the tabletop while cranking.
I also think the older models are built better (heavier and higher quality) than the new ones. At least the new ones I've seen in the store seem "cheaper".

Anyone know where I can get one of these in the UK? Web search hasn't shown much. Whittard's used to have them, but now they just seem to stock the 'knee' version, which is ??60 as opposed to the ??40 they used to charge for the box.
thanks
Andy

I have the knee model and am very happy with its performance. I also have a box model from some other maker. It's true that either can be used between the knees, but the Zass knee model is a bit more comfortable. It's unstable on the countertop though. I think the knee model is cool, but in any case, I don't think you can go wrong with a Zass.

My Capresso grinder seems to be clogged - I cleaned as normal (removing the upper burr), but the chute seems to be stopped up. How can I clear it? Or is it time for a new grinder?
