Well if its not working correctly, you could always just take it back most have atleast a 30 day warranty if you just bought it for your son.

Either the loading is not completing of the mechanism or the laser pickup lens is dirty.

Hi there,my sony E10 has developed a problem, during playback the sound intermittingly breaks up(as if in a broken microphone style),I have used a professional lens and head cleaner, but to no avail, i

It sounds like a hair in the disc cartridge or the loading cavity. I once drove myself nuts with the same situation only to find a vary fine hair bouncing around.
If you have the savvy to open it up, get a good light, an opta viser and look for a hair or dust. A can of dust off would be an asset. In my case it took several tries because I was not certain at that point what the problem was, but it was a hair. A cleaning disc is not enought to get it out in most cases.
I saved a $700 MD deck by getting the hair out....

Recorder reads the disks fine, but as soon as you hit play, all you get from the output is loud static. Please advise.

Similar to regular CDs, the information/music is stored as a digital signal. The statis you are hearing is the digital information directly. The D-A converter circuit (Digital to Analogue) is not functioning correctly. This is a relatively common failure of the D-A IC and is usually easily repaired. Please see an Authorized Sony repair center for assistance.

Sony MDS-B6P Mini Disc Player doesn't read the disc. Drive motor not turning motor is good. The problem is on the board under the loading mechanism. I swapped boards with another machine and it reads fine....

hello larry_pauley!
please check voltages of motor drive circuit (especially driving transistor), if you still have the working board then you can compare between.

Sony MDS-JE520 Mini Disc Machine no operation, standby led is illuminated, but pressing on/off button it does not respond

This is from my own experiance. I inadvertedly bent the cover of my deck and had the same error.
The minidisc is blocked in the loading mechanism. Too much weight on top of the deck can bend the cover and the metal support which is above the loading sledge. The slider is then blocked. When you connect the power you can hear a motor trying to move for as short instant.
Disconnect the deck from the power supply.
Take of the cover and check if the support is bent. carefully bend it upwards, if so. Reconnect power and check if the deck powers up..

That's my solution which worked for me.

BTW I second Obertellis advice to find a MDS-JE780 (or MDS-JB980) they are the most complete decks ever made by Sony

My tascam dp 02 started up with this mount error message I bought a tascam dp 02 for my son for christmas. When I plug it into the mains the display shows ' mount error :oc /please pwr off'. my email is...

The TASCAM DP-02 Owner's Manual has no reference to a mount error in it. There are many people online complaining about mount errors on their computers, mac and win, when hooking the tascam up via USB, but your post suggests this error was on the DP-02 itself, is that correct?

I get less than a dozen hits of people asking this question online, and absolutely no useful answers or responses.

Do you have the DP-02CF model? If so, it may be a faulty CompactFlash Type I card that it is trying to mount. If there is a disk in the drive, I'd remove that cd in case it is trying to mount a bad disk.

I can most likely help troubleshoot a troublesome USB-to-computer connection, but otherwise I'm going to have to refer you to TASCAM customer service, (although I must say the forums I've perused have little positive to say about them.) TASCAM support in the UK (a guess, but you did use the term 'mains' in your post) is provided by TEAC UK Limited at +44-8451-302511 or

Best of luck & I hope that helps.

Din Unlock - Unable to record

You must have the unit switched to "DIGITAL" input - switch it to "ANALOG" and record that way. The "DIN UNLOCK" is when you have the lack of a proper digital signal, or a digital signal with copy protection, like you cannot make a digital copy of a digital Minidisc, etc...Does that make sense? Let me know if the "Analog" setting works for you. Good luck.

Every time I load a disc the words 'disc load error' appear

Inside all MD players are a number of small pinswitches. These sense whether the MD is correctly inserted, whether the record protection tab is activated and whether the protective slide on the MD has retracted after MD insertion. On Other (portable) MD playback devices will also have a pinswitch which checks that the lid has been closed, but yours is slot loading so does not have this.

Pinswitches do not last forever as the internal parts can fail due to fatigue or due to misuse, and in every MD player which I've examined with the symptoms you describe the fault has either been a pinswitch or a faulty solder joint to the switch.

Without examining the unit though it's not possible for me to narrow down the fault any further but if you have basic electrical skills and tools you can use a continuity meter across each pinswitch to determine which one is not working correctly.

The part is cheap: original spares are usually unavailable but can normally be replaced with a generic item or bypassed altogether if the user is prepared to accept minor losses in overall functionality.

Note that a good used MDS-JE480 is still relatively easy to find: my first one cost me just £30 on eBay less than two years ago and since then I've acquired another which was listed on FreeCycle for the princely sum of zilch. Yamaha and Kenwood units are also knocking around although few of these have the MDLP capability of the JE-480. So don't bother with spending much on repairing your current unit without looking for another replacement first as it's likely to be the cheaper option.
