Can't get a TV Signal on my Proton DVD Recorder.

Initially, the basic connection would be output to feed the input.

Offhand, to retain the digital quality/reception of DirecTV, connect the DirecTV HD DVR Box's HDMI port to the INPUT 1 HDMI of the JVC LT-42P789 using a HDMI cable for viewing purposes only. Channel selection is done on the DirecTV HD DVR Box while the JVC must be set to V1 by pressing the INPUT button on the side panel a couple of times to cycle through the other choices or alternately, V1 on the remote control. Confirm reception by viewing a DirecTV channel.

Additionally, to make the Protron PD-DVR100 viewable on the JVC TV, connect the Y/G, Pb/B & Pr/R VIDEO OUT at the rear of the Protron using green, blue & red RCA to RCA cables to the COMPONENT INPUT 5 of the JVC marked Y, Pb & Pr. For the audio, connect red & white RCA to RCA from FR & FL AUDIO OUT of the Protron to the L AUDIO R of INPUT 5 of the JVC. Test by loading and playing a known good DVD movie on the Protron. The JVC TV must be set to V5 by pressing the INPUT button on the side panel a couple of times tocycle through the other choices or alternately, V5 on the remotecontrol. Confirm reception by viewing the DVD movie.

To be able to record the DirecTV channels to the Protron, connect either V1 or V2 VIDEO OUT of the DirecTV HD DVR Box using a yellow RCA to RCA cable to either IN 1 or IN 2 VIDEO / SOURCE INPUT of the PD-DVR100. Further connect a pair of red & white RCA to RCA from either the L1 & R1 or L2 & R2 AUDIO OUT of the DirecTV HD DVR Box to the R-AUDIO-L of either IN1 or IN2 SOURCE INPUT of the Protron. To test:

• set JVC to V5 and watch a known good DVD movie;
• stop & eject the DVD movie and replace with an appropriate blank disc;
• press the INPUT button on the remote of the Protron a couple of times to cycle through the available choices of AV1, AV2, AV3, DV or disc. Choice would either be AV1 or AV2;
• use the DirecTV's remote and change channels;
• DirectTV 's changing channels should be displayed on the JVC;
• pressing Record on the Protron should initiate recording process.

There are a few more settings and configurations that could be done on the Protron (SpectronIQ) PD-DVR100 such as setting the audio to 2 channels only not 5.1 (Analog Audio Output) and General Sub menu to set the Video Output Format. These are all better explained in the user's manual linked here.

hootk up the wire from the wall into the IN on the Dirert TV box, then from the out, of that go inot the inn of the dvr recorder, then from the Out of the dvr box go into the in of the tv.. doesnt matter what wires u use, as long as u match up the colors and do what i said for the inns and out,, once u do that check the input is on the correct one ( tuner video 1,2,3)
then amke sure the tv is on channel 3 or 4.

If your TV lacks audio / visual (A/V) jacks, you will need to purchase an RF Modulator. RF Modulators are relatively inexpensive components which have both A/V and coaxial inputs outputs, which will allow you to connect to the Game System using A/V cables and to the TV using a coaxial cable.
