Sound device My sound device has a problem. When ever I want to play music, it says that there is a problem with my sound device. I believe it because the computer never makes sounds once so ever.

Re: Sound device

Happy Holidays!
Well, you have to go on BIOS, (and see if onboard audio) is on, if is a external sound card, try to put in another PCI slot, but first:
1) Uninstall all sound drivers, from ADD/REMOVE programs
2) shutdown you PC, open it, and change the sound card to another PCI slot.
3) Turn on your PC, and be ready with your drivers, for your particular sound card, and install it.
thats it, is the best bet, for sound.

My logitech z-5300 speakers were working perfect to play itunes & sounds from all programs. Got video camera & tried to use it but no sounds played around in control panel now my speakers wont...

You do not say which operating system you are using. My answer can therefore only be general rather than specific to your operating system.

The Video Camera you tried to install probably has an in-built microphone. Connecting this is may have changed the default settings for your audio devices.

You have a number of options for fixing this problem.

Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Restore my computer to an earlier time > selected a highlighted date in the calendar and an Event in the schedule before the date you tried to install the video camera > restore > restart the computer (you should hear the windows logon on tones if you are using a windows operating system) > (My) Music > Sample Music > double click on any track to test the sound playback.

Start > Control Panel > Audio devices > Audio (Playback Devices) > Set Defaults (set the Speakers to be the Default Playback devices > apply > ok > restatrt computer > (My) Music > Sample Music > double click on any track to test the sound playback.

Reinstalling the Audio/Sound Drivers would also probably resolve the problem by restoring your Default Audio settings, if you have the Driver CD for your Laptop or Desktop Motherboard > install Audio/Sound Driver > restart computer > (My) Music > Sample Music > double click on any track to test the sound playback.

I cannot direct you to a driver download site, because you have given no information about your computer.

My sound is not working when I play music and stuff, but when I run test, the sound works. The mixer shows that sound is playing but none comes out.

On a high end sound card there are DEVICE,WINDOW SOUND,CD,WAV and MP3 individual settings.
Right Click on the speaker icon (next to clock) and open mixer to max out individual levels.

Application like Youtube and Skype has there own settings.
Did you connect the CD to sound card cable?
Double check to make sure this cable is connected.

More sample pictures link HERE
If your motherboard has built-in sound card then connect the cd to the motherboard CD_IN connector.

- When I try to play music on Windows Media Player, a message comes up saying ''Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound...

It sounds like your sound card is disabled. Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager > click on Sound, video and game controllers.. Look to see if your sound card shows up. If it's there, double click on it to see if it says it's working properly or disabled.

If it says it's okay, you may want to uninstall it, and reinstall it. Go to your PC mfg website and look for an updated driver.

My speakers stopped working suddenly

Hello....No Sound, No Volume Control, Mixer not Found, No Sound device installed…etc etc, This is a generic issue with Windows OS....many of the users are facing this issue....
1 - r u facing NO Audio/Sound issue...?
2 - is ur Volume Control not responding ?
3 - is ur Sound and Audio Device in Control Panel Grayed out ?
4 - Do u get a msg "No Active Mixer Devices Installed....when u try to open Volume Ctrl etc etc ?

if ur ans to any one of them is Yes...then u are being spammed by Microsoft....ur Sound Control IRQ is being frozen by a recent update from file update or any sound driver update can fix it, neither Microsoft is issuing any patch to fix it….

Full solution is available in my website (Support page)'s quite simple process to fix it, and I am not charging any money, just trying to do some service.
Copy the above address in the browser, replace + with dots....
all the best...

X-540 speakers no sound

to philipyork: the speakers never will be detected in your pc, the hardware (plug and play) is the only detected for the computer, if u have a message saying no device sound then will be the audio card.

to rocker: check the cable, the volume in the pc.

Loss of volume

About 6 months ago I had to wipe my hard drive clean and then reinstall all disks for my Dell Dimension 4500 system. Ever since then, there has been no sound for emails, music, Start-up and Logging off etc...etc.

When trying to play a cd for instance, or anything requiring sound, the following message appears:
media_player9.gif 0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
  • Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
  • Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
  • You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000 Web Help

There are no other programs running and I have repeatedly gone to control panel and gone through all the Windows sound trouble shooting suggestions regarding sound devices. All wire connections have been checked and there was no change in regard to the plug-in areas.

Everything worked great soundwise prior to re-installation, no wires or connection locations were changed, and no one else has used my computer so I have ruled out any accident by another person.

Please call me or email me at, Phone is 551-497-2795 to help me while at my computer. It will be so much appreciated. This problem has been driving me crazy for too long.

Thanks so much for your prompt attention and looking foward to speaking to a tech repair adviser asap.
