Question about Mitsubishi VS-50800 50" Rear Projection Television
TV would intermittantly lose picture, we would turn it off for 30 min or so and it would work for 3-4 weeks. Eventually we called a TV service to come check it out. They wiggled a board, not sure which one, and it worked fine for a year. They estimated $650 to repair and listed two items on the estimate: P.S vert and Horizontal (can't make out the rest). The sound works perfectly. I removed the front cover and didn't see any heaters glowing in the 3 CRT's. Any idea as to what is wrong?
Could be so many things these tv's have many issues revolving around the convergence board, Id say your quote was for the Vertical Power supply and horrizontal convergence boards, but I did find this below that I thought You may be interested in, not so sure of its worth to you but felt I should pass it on.
But for all you guys that have Mitsubishi's with PnP (picture-in-picture), the screen just turning off on you, while the TV remains on and you still hear sound... its the PnP module. Two things to correct it: You can either have the module replaced or bypassed (for those that don't care about PnP).
You will pay anywhere from $200 - $400 to fix. I was lucky and found a guy that did pickup/delivery for $50 and replaced the module for $186.
It usually starts out as an intermittent problem, but will eventually just shut down. However, it is a common problem with Mitsubishi's using PnP. Call around to TV repair shops in your area.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpfull, too many options, good luck

That is the capacitor.. that shouldnt be that expensive, so i guess they ripped you off.. in my country the repairment cost you less than 10$..
and yes, you need special tools and knowledge to fix this, so i would recommend you to go for some repairman before you can electrocute yourself trying to fix it, even if its unplugged...
