Question about Philips 27RF50S 27" TV

Is This a Digital or Analog Television?

I'm trying to find out if this TV is SD or an analog TV. We've had it for some time, really like the picture, but don't know if it is digital so it will still be good to go when the changeover from analog to digital takes place. I have the manual, but can find nothing about that in it. If someone knows, I'd really appreciate it.

Is this a HD ready tv if not what would help?

Based on the specs for the TV, the DS31520 is not an HD-ready display. It is at best an SD display with an NTSC (analog tuner). (Picture resolution: 330 lines, video input 660 lines) OTA ATSC signals are 480i (SD), 720p or 1080i (HD) where those are the number of horizontal lines of pixels. The manual is available here: .

This is a fine TV for analog cable or OTA TV with a standard digital to analog converter box (which only give SD output). The TV has composite video and S-video inputs (again limited to SD).

For HD, you will need a new TV screen that can display more rows of data.

I wish that I had better news for you.

Digital or Analog

This TV has an NTSC (analog) tuner. You'll need a digital to analog converter if you want to receive most OTA channels.

I hope this helps.

How do I know if my tv is analog

If you have an analog tv you will have a weak or no picture and sound. You will need to have cable (e.g Virgin) or Sky before 2012 because after this time all television broadcasts will be digital

Is this a digital or analog tv?

It is both. It is your channel source that really matters. If you are in the US all channels went digital just a short time ago.

Can't get clear picture on my 50" Samsung DLP

Most of the Analog viewing will be much poorer compared to HD. Since it it a digital product, it is designed to be used with a digital signal. You will get signal degradation if it has to take the analog and convert it to digital to be viewed and there is really nothing that can be done to compensate for it.
Hope this helps,

Does the JVC AV27230 require a digital to analog converter?

if you are going to continue using the rooftop antenna, then you will nee to purchase a digital converter box. Those television sets are only analog. You do have an option to get Directv or Dish network and you will not need a converter box at all. Directv and Dish network are 100% Digital and the receivers work as converter boxes for that product only.

We bought a 20" analog/digital tv the analog channels come on fine but we it scans for the digital channels it says no siginal will we be able to watch it when the change takes place even though we can't...

This could be caused by two different issues.
  • Digital signal reception is bad. The digital signal must be locked in, digital signal reception is either on or off (not like analog signal reception where you can receive a low signal and a fuzzy picture). You may need to adjust you antenna direction and height or obstructions around your antenna, reference the web site for your specific location (address) for antenna compass headings.
  • Television is faulty, digital receiver is bad. Your new television has two receivers, an analog receiver and a digital receiver. A simple power surge will knock out your digital receiver. Make sure you have a quality surge suppressor connected to the television power and the antenna is properly grounded. Return the television for a replacement and purchase a quality surge suppressor.
You must add a quality surge suppressor to your digital television!

Good luck.

Are you wondering if this Durabrand TV is going to be ok in 2009 when Television goes all Digital?

This will not affect cable TV users only people trying to recieve TV over the AIR UHF/VHF will be digital signals now and will require a special tuner to recieve them.

Most durabrands have Analog/Digital tuners but they are analog TV's.
