Went to use the recorder for Christmas. When I open the LCD screen or the viewfinder, I cannot get any picture. When I press record, only the sound is recording. I can view previoulsy recorded tapes on playback. I have checked all the settings and completed the Camera Reset, but nothing!

I contacted JVC @ 800-252-5722 regarding this problem. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" from the automated attendent prompts. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of this problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call and get your name in the computer ASAP. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call to advise you of the charges.

I dropped off my camera at the sevice center yesterday. They called me this morning and told me it's fixed. It was the CCD chip that was the problem.

When in video recording mode LCD screen and viewfinder are black when the lens cap is off.

It could one of a few problems:

1. The viewfinder is pulled out and "PRIORITY" is set to "FINDER".

Push the viewfinder back in or set "PRIORITY" to "LCD".

2. The LCD monitor's brightness setting is too dark.

Adjust the brightness of the LCD monitor.

3. If the monitor is tilted upward 180 degrees, open the monitor fully.

Black screen on my s6500 fd

I assume you removed the lens cap...;-)
If both the viewfinder and the screen is black, it is most likely an error on the CCD. If the viewfinder is OK, but the screen is dead, the problem is probably the LCD.
Hopefully you still have warranty on the camera?

Black screen will not take photo

May sound silly but, make sure the lens cap is off. If so, then look to see if the automatic iris is opening when you power on the camera, you will know it is open when you can see the glass of the lens. Fresh/fully charged battery/batteries would be something else to try.

Lens cap?

Try removing the battery, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. That may reset the lens cap sensor.

Is the battery dead? Try taking it out and charging it, then put it back into the camera.

Also, you can try using another battery of the same type.
