Have you taken the printer apart? as the issue I had with our spare printer was that the home mechanics around here had taken ours apart for some reason and had not put the paper roller pin back in correctly. it was sticking out preventing the ink tank holder from moving.

My canon PIXMA MP450 all-in-on-printer is showing U059 the following ink cartridge cannot be recognized i tryed to put the old ink tank in but it said the same thing

Basically, there is no solution for your case. This happens especially for Canon product.(called e5 error) Once a cartridge is not recognizable, there is no way, you can use it.
The only way you can do is, replace with brand new one. This is typical Canon problem especially when you refill or re-use your cartridges.
You may see some solution from web such as reset the printer, do somthing to printer software... But non of these methods are working.. Even if there is one, it must be very difficult to do it for individual users.

However, as for a prevention, make sure unplug the power cords before insert or eject the cartridge from printer. In that way, you can at least reuse your cartridges for refill. Hope it helps.

Getting error 5100; what does that mean?

Not sure what it means but the solutions for this problem from the canon website are as follows:

1. Turn off printer, wait ten seconds and turn back on. If that doesn't fix it:
2. If your printer is new, open the print cover and remove the protectvie tape and protective material. If that doesn't fix it:
3. Take the ink cartridges out and put them back in. If that doesn't fix it:
4. It may require professional repair.

Error 5100

Hi,

Try this... it worked on my MP450... Turn the printer on and open the lid, it shows the cartridges. Now let the cartridges settle to the left. You can notice that the cartridges run on a metal belt. It might be dirty, mine showed a black stripe on it. Take a cloth, a Kleenex will be fine and clean it up. Move the cartridges to the right (force them with your hand) and clean the part of the belt left behind them. Now turn it off, close it up and turn it back on. It should work

Regards,
Ron

Error 5100 on MP450

It sounds like the fine cartridge movement is being restricted.
Clear the paper jam or foreign object that is preventing the FINE Cartridge Holder from moving, cancel printing from your computer, then turn OFF the machine and turn it back ON again.

Printer won't accept cartridge

i sure u buy wrong cartridge for your MP450...if u want higher quality, u should buy CL-51 cartridge for colour and CL-50 for black..

fyi, CL-52 can only suitable for IP6210D / IP6220D printer. u can see yourself at this link :

I have a PIXMA MP450 printer and error code 5100 displays on the LCD. What do I need to do?

error code 5100 means it cannot recognize the follwing UO51 cartridge.
A lot of the time the cartridges need to be re-set. for this :--

Remove both cartridges, turn off the printer for a few seconds. Then, restart your printer and wait for it to warm-up. When it's finished warming up and you see the error code for missing ink cartridges, open the printer and insert both of them and close the printer.

That might take care of it because the restarting of your printer, "fakes it out" every once in a while.

Hope this helps.
thanks for using FixYa

Error 5100

Dear Scub,

Did you hear a loud crunching sound from the printer before the error code 5100 was displayed?

1. You may need to send in the unit for service. Some Cannon Service offer temporary replacement unit while working on yours.

Checking and do-it-yourself inkjet printer repair is messy.

2. You can try check if the print head assembly (carriage) moves freely from left to right. Lubricate/clean if necessary (If your printer has one) check also the **** strip at the back of the carriage. This is a plastic film with multiple dark notch like mark. Clean with cotton swab and light solvent or isoprophyl alcohol.

If these does not solve your problem, guess your back to # 1.
