player wont play files just boots and shuts down

Same thing! Last night I converted a bunch of my .wma files to mp3 format using free Jodix converter, got the songs on her Shaker, played a few tunes to make sure it was working - it was - and this morning, she tried it out. She was able to play songs for about five minutes, and then it just stopped playing in the middle of a song. (Ironically, the song was "1234" - maybe Feist only plays on iPods...heeheeee.) We turned it on and got the boot-up drum noise, but then nothing. Figured the battery was dead, so I put in a new one. Nothing. Popped the card out and replaced it. No luck. Tried syncing it on Windows Media Player, which I used to put the music on. Now the computer won't even recognize it. (It acknowledges my Zen Stone, though, so I know it's not the USB port or cable.)

Tried turning it on again, and I get the "on" noise, then the blue power indicator ring around the Play/Pause button flashes three times, then stops. Nothing. Help!

Player stopped playing. We assumed battery was dead so we replaced with new battery. Turned on player, heard drumroll, light blinked a few times then nothing. Kept trying to turn it on, could hear drumroll, then nothing. HELP!!

I loader the shaker with songs - drag and drop, easy enough My son used it until the battery ran out. I replaced the battery and now it won't play music. We get a drumroll and that's it.

I plug in the usb to my computer and the drive shows up, but I can't click on it. The properties for the drive says that 0 bytes are being used but it was full of songs before I changed the battery.

I've come back later to try the drive again and it's telling me I need to format the disk. That got the player working again, but what caused it to erase all the songs that were already on it I don't know.

Like another guy said, right click on the drive and select format. If it doesn't allow you to format you may have the sd card locked. Take it out and look for the little sliding switch on the side of the card.

The sansa shaker that I purchased for my son for christmas also went dead, I've tried everything from reformating the card.. to changing the battery, etc, etc. My computer recognizes it with no problem it will play the songs from the disc, the player however, will not.

This is frustrating. I'm disappointed in this product. It seemed like the perfect gift. I plan on returning it, unless anyone has any other ideas???

Best solution:

Return the Shaker. Go to Toys 'R' Us or Target. Purchase a Zen Stone. No muss, no fuss; no converting files to MP3 as the Zen happily accepts .wma files. Comes in multiple colors - I saw pink, green, blue and black. Simple operation, good sound quality, and perfectly fine for an 8-year-old kid. In fact, I already have a Zen Stone and it's fine for me too - I just wanted a nice, basic mp3 player, and this fits the bill.

For under $40, you can't beat it.

That's my solution.

I bought one of these for my son this Christmas and it's been nothing but problems.

It wouldn't play songs in folders. So i deleted the folders and dropped in mp3's and it played fine for a while. Then it just stopped working. Changed the battery and it still wouldn't work. Plugged it into our PC and couldn't access the sandisk at all. Windows would recognize the device but upon clicking on it I was asked to insert a disk into the drive.

Two days later I try again and this time it insists that the drive has not been formatted. So I format the drive, losing all the data that I couldn't access anyway and I was finally able to drag more songs onto the players disk. All of the songs previously on the player were gone of course.

It played fine for a few minutes but then it began to shut off after about 20 seconds of play. I double checked the format on the songs on the player to make sure they were mp3. I tried using different songs - same results. And now it's returned to my original problem. I can't access the sandisk and windows is asking me to insert a disk into the drive.

This very simple to use player is so simple that's it's a defective piece of junk.

The Sansa Shaker supports only .mp3 and .wav file formats. It is possible that you have synced WMA or M4A audio files that have DRM protection. These formats are not supported by the SANSA SHAKER.
Songs purchased through Amazon or copied from your music collection in mp3 format will play on your SHAKER.

My sansa shaker is just not playing any music

"Media Coder" is a free program you can download that will convert your songs on the shaker to MP3 files. I had the same problem. Make sure the shaker is plugged into computer so that you will be able to choose the songs on it to convert. Very easy to use. Just google "Media Coder" and you should find it.

Hi my sansa shaker wont play music

The Sansa Shaker ONLY plays MP3's, I downloaded a bunch of .wma files and kept getting the uh-oh so I put on an mp3 I had a voila! it played. Bummer though. Guess I gotta figure out how to convert my music files for my daughter, or pitch this thing and buy one that will play any media file.

Hi my sansa shaker wont play music

Make sure the songs are in the right file format first. I would only download songs that are in mp3 format for starters. If it is still not playing, follow the reset method that the manual suggests. If it is still not working, it may be defective. These "windowless" players are the most difficult to use, because there is no on-screen display to let you know what's going on.

Shaker wont play songs

The songs that you are trying to download may not have the right DRM license - get the premium version of your music service subscription to get the correct license (or go to the license tab under the song properties, and click acquire license).

Sansa shaker not playing

Funny I found this forum because I've been having the same problem. My understanding is that subscription services (yahoo music, iTunes, etc.) don't come in an mp3 file format. You can, however, add songs from cd's you own.

Here's a link you might find helpful. It's from the Sansa Forums. One of the posters describes how you can convert files. I don't know how complicated it is. Good luck! :)

I understand your frustration! I've been having the same problem. I just wasted TWO HOURS trying to get music to download onto this Shaker. The extra $40 for a better device would have been worth it! I can't afford to buy all the cd's that I'd need to fill this player with the songs my son likes. I'm thinking of bringing it back!
