Question about Toshiba MD14H63 14" TV/DVD Combo
This just started on 12/23/07, I went to turn on my new TV and the power light flashed and then it turned itself off. I pulled out my owners manuel and followed the instructions of unplugging for 5 seconds and plugging back in and it still will not turn on.
If I hold down the power button then it will turn on and I will get a picture but I have to hold the power button down for it to stay on and I cannot change channels, raise/lower the volume, etc. It will then turn itself back off.
I saw the one solution listed, do I have to take my TV apart and if so where do I find the items listed to test?!
We have two Toshiba MD14H63 TV/DVD combos. Both recently experienced the identical problem: turned off, when turned on, only one channel displayed, whenever channel change or any other button was pushed, tv turned itself off. I placed the tv's face down on a towel, removed the 5 large screws and one small screw enabling me to remove the backs of the TV's. Turning the TV's back on their bases, looking into the right side of the circuit board, you can see a small 125V/5amp fast acting fuse. All I did was remove the fuse to see if it had blown. They hadn't. I then replaced the fuses, tipped the TV's back on to their screens, reassembled the backs of the TV's, reconnected them to the cable and and plugged them in and, voila, they worked. I have no idea why. Some time later, I again experienced the TV's going out and not coming back on at all. I repeated the same procedure and one is working okay again so far. I am going to put the TV's on surge protectors and see if that helps keep them from going out again. Hope this helps someone. If you attempt this procedure, please be extraordinariliy careful not to touch any part of the electronics of the TV. There is a capacitor back there somewhere that has enough accumulated voltage to kill you if you haven't properly discharged it with the correct resistor connections. I just used insuled needlenose pliers to carefully pry out the fuse and re-install it. It is delicate but can be done.

I have the same problem with this model as Guest, who posted on 01/03/2008: power on, red light, immediate shut-off. The sticker on the television says it was manufactured in April 2007. I think there should be a warranty on it; I suppose I'll be calling Toshiba soon if it doesn't start working. Maybe important to note for any potential buyers, as well.
