Remove battery cover and battery. Using a #00 philips head screwdriver, remove the 6 screws around the perimeter. Slide phone open and carefully pry up on the edge of the green (or blue) trim near the space bar. The colored back should unsnap. There will be two philips head screws visible on the now exposed circuit board. Remove these and carefully pull up on the rectangular ribbon cable to disconnect the main circuit board from the keypad circuit. Carefully peel the two button contacts from either side of the phone. On the spacebar edge, there will be a clip holding the circuit board in place. Gently pry it away from the board and the board should come free (there will be clips on the other side but you should be able to lift the free side of the board up and slide it out from under the clips). Remove the QWERTY keypad. Unglue the remaining ribbon cable from the keypad frame. Undo the 8 silver screws securing the keypad frame to the hinge and lift frame off. There will be 4 screws visible on the back of the LCD case. Remove these and insert a thin plastic spudger at the top of the frame and carefully work your way around. The two halves will separate (should hear two snaps on each side). You will now be into the keypad/LCD section of the phone. Removing everything else is pretty straight forward. Follow these directions backwards to reassemble.
Great directions. Used for my sgh t479. Just skip the unglue the remaining ribbon cable and undo the 8 screws to lift keypad frame off. 6 screws (instead of 4) on back of LCD section can be reached through holes in kepyad frame. This avoids pulling on the cable too much. Be careful lifting the "gates" which hold the cables. Lift the black side or you can break them and pull cables out gently.

Great directions. Worked for my sgh T479. Only skip the "Unglue the remaining ribbon cable from the keypad frame. Undo the 8 [6 for the T479] silver screws securing the keypad frame to the hinge and lift frame off." There will be 6 (instead of 4) screws visible on the back of the LCD case. These can be removed with the keypad frame attached through special holes in the keypad frame once it is slid to the open position. This way the keypad frame stays attached to the back of the LCD case and there is less chance of damaging the attached cable. Also be careful lifting the "gates" holding the cables on. Lift from the black side so the gates don't break. And don't forget to transfer the little velcro type pad holding the cable to the back of the digitizer if you are changing the digitizer.
