Question about Canon PowerShot SD100 / IXUS II Digital Camera
This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Thanks so much! i have the same problem and was just about ready to throw the camera out when i saw your post. i was also very impressed with canon's customer service, so much so i decided to buy the latest sd870is... but nice to know i will have a back-up after the repair! :)
