Question about Fuji FinePix S5100 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Canon a560 I just got my camera for Christmas, last night I downloaded 12 pictures from the camera (with the original memory card)  today I put in a 1GB card and when I just got home and tried to download my pics nothing is happening.  I tried going to the start menu and manually pulling it up and it says camera is not detected.  If I turn the camera off and back on I can hear the computer chime so I know it's detecting it somewhat.  I tried uninstalling the software and then reinstalling it and I still am getting nothing automatically and when I go through the steps manually it is still saying the camera is undetected.  I have tried unplugging the cable on both ends and replugging but still the same thing.  Can someone please help!!!

Sounds like the card is defective or inferior.
Some Asian cards have been known to be relabelled higher than their actual size. [ie 256MB marked as 512MB fraud scam]
Suggest trying the original card again - if it works them probably not the camera. A Canon A560 should definitely accept 2GB [at least]
1-2 GB cards should be accepted by almost all big brand digital cameras.
Cards OVER 2 gigabytes [ie 4GB and up] CAN be a problem for older cameras that weren't designed to access the higher addresses needed in larger cards. Most of the major brands can now do this.

I got a MacBook Pro for Christmas and now I can't find my Solution Disk for my PowerShot A560. Is there a way to install one online?

You don't need any additional software.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

Did not erase but since last night photo's on card have gone.

Did you copy them to your computer? In some cases, the computer will default to "moving" the pictures instead of copying. "Move" deletes the original after making the copy.

Your camera won't be able to undelete pictures, but there are programs for doing this on a computer. You can put the memory card into a card reader attached to a computer, and use an undelete program to recover the deleted files. Undelete programs are available for free download from the internet, try at www.download.com.

Technique on taking images of baseball cards

Greetings sandb27,

Your best route to avoid flash reflection on your cards is to find a lighting situation where you do not rely on flash. I would suggest a small handheld tripod to stabilize the camera and shooting without the flash. You might also try to use the Indoor Mode. Indoor Mode prevents camera shake blur and adjusts the white balance to preserve the subject's true color when working under tungsten or fluorescent lighting.

Thank You,
